Re: Walk Re-selection
With professional planners working in unison (not the union) with their CWU colleagues everything should seamlessly fall into place with every delivery the same duration at 75Bs meaning the problem does not truly exist in the eyes of RM.

Re: Walk Re-selection
I also forgot to add that this resign has been pushed through the walks are not correct some of them are massively out of proportion with some people leaving up to 4 loops in and packets, the DOM has had 12 months to try and correct this but has made no attempt whatsoever, this is another reason why I believe our resign is flawed.....it's absurd.

Re: Walk Re-selection
Your last post actually addressed the real issue. The number of years of service have been used as a means of choosing walks etc for many years; but that too is unfair because it is not based on merit and it has not encouraged offices to work together to make the walks/rounds themselves fair.
You have had a revision and you still talk about some walks being so good whilst others being so cr-p... The disparity should not be that big if you have all worked together and put pressure on planners and managers before re-picks.
We are now new delivery methods )P&L et all), so you cannot continue to think about the walks like they used to be. The system will be completely unworkable if you simply allow the seniors to pick whatever they like and pair up with whomsoever they want...

Re: Walk Re-selection
One of the problems at our place was before the resign people had been allocated on to walks and then told to make them workable by saying where the problems were and to get the loops correct, but the senior staff didn't bother because they weren't going to pick them and the junior staff didn't bother because they wouldn't be able to pick them, and everybody just wanted to get out as fast as possible so they could get home,so all in all a complete f--k up,the poor rep was getting it from both sides and decided that if people wouldn't put themselves out to help why should he!.So now we are screwed with some very easy walks and some impossible ones.Ain't life grand.

Explain to me how this meritocracy might work please.chrisj wrote:Your last post actually addressed the real issue. Seniority isn't in place because it's fair,it's in place because it's the least unfair in the majority opinion.
Personally my preference would be picking from a hat...every 6 months or so.
The entertainment value alone in seeing the tears and tantrums would make it worthwhile.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

That suicide thread would be a lot busier.fishtank wrote:Explain to me how this meritocracy might work please.chrisj wrote:Your last post actually addressed the real issue. Re: Walk Re-selection
Picking from a hat will obviously be the best but perhaps every 2 years or so; then we can have a truly flexible workforce.
The way some senior posties talk about seniority and entitlements as if it is sacrosanct or a divine right is what I was getting at. Meritocracy will be almost impossible for such a simple job, and that is what it is.
But some senior members of staff tends to go on and on about this privilege and some even try to justify it - as if they know more or are better posties than someone who has been at the job 2 years or more.
Recently my manager gave Sunday IPS OT to the seniors/FT but said if I came in, I will have to deliver packets in a van. Why?She said do I know all the round. I said to her, I am a reserve that does almost all the duties bar rurals and some HCT, so I know more than the old foggies who continue to mess up the IPS and packet sorting because they are still using the same knowledge from 5 years back whereas we have had many changes since then
There are times when meritocracy might work and times when some people should be rewarded for being better than others - but those times and occasions are not common.
