Advice FROM new starters

Keep it polite though, and anyone can join in.

I will heavily moderate this thread if it descends into anarchy.

Thats advice for Managers rather than posties though. Managers should manage the workers to the workload, not the posties.

To the part timers I know it's easier said than done but don't come in hours before you're time and work for nothing ,the rm bosses love it,

In my experience more full timers come in early than anyone! Not sure how helpful drawing a divide between FT and PT workers is to be honest, as we are all in this sh1t storm together. There is already a division between rural and town deliveries in our office. The old management tactic of divide & conquer is working well. We need solidarity not divisions.

Your right Lincox the idea was to let experienced guys learn from Newbies experience rather than another divide and conquer thread. Perhaps because management do it so often and so silently its now become engrained.

If the one thing we perhaps could learn from new starters was to treat everyone the same no matter gender, race, sexuality, contract length, age, politics, or working hours RM would be a better place to work.

The same maxim applies. Instead of distancing ourselves from new starters, we should be persuading them to join the union, and explaining to them why it is in their interests to do the job properly. At the end of the day, most new starters seem to be on woeful short hour contracts, so coming in and working for nothing is completely counter-productive.

Make sure you tell newbies as much as possible. Things like cutting off and not having to come in early e.t.c. All this helps them not get shafted by the managers who don't tell them about these things, they will take advantage.

I have learnt more about this job from this web site than from my co-workers and management. Both management and co-workers do NOT like people cutting off where I work, taking short cuts is the name of the game. 2013 could be the year of change.

That's because noone has actually told them anything and they are totally confused. I have had that look many times the past few weeks. They expect you to know all terminology without anyone teaching you it. If I hadn't researched as much as I did on here I doubt I would of lasted a day. It really is poor
