As we remind customers that today is the last recommended posting date for First Class items, ministers and MPs from across the political spectrum are praising our people for the hard work they are doing to sort letters and parcels in time for Christmas.

Among the latest visits was one by Northern Ireland First Minister Peter Robinson, who dropped in on East Belfast delivery office.

He was shown round by local manager David Durston who said: ‘Our people do a fantastic job.’ Pictured is Nick Smith MP who visited Ebbw Vale delivery office.

Recognition

Theresa Villiers, secretary of state for Northern Ireland, visited Belfast mail centre which was covered by BBC Radio Ulster and BBC Radio Foyle and press photographers. Other broadcast coverage included BBC Radio Orkney on the Orkney Islands, Capital FM in Newcastle, Central FM and Radio Tay in Scotland, and BBC Radio Shropshire.

The work of our people was also acknowledged by MP Andrew Stephenson as he visited Pendle delivery office.

He was shown around by delivery office manager Iain Woodcock and introduced to all the postmen and women. Brighton Kemp Town MP Simon Kirby visited our Peacehaven delivery office

Hard work

Welsh Assembly member Sandy Mewies praised postal staff for their hard work during the busy Christmas period after visiting our Flint Delivery Office.

And in Blackpool Gordon Marsden met with workers at our sorting office on Edward Street to chat to them about their busiest time of year.

Mr Marsden. shadow minister for skills, said our people told him they had seen a rise in the amount of parcels to deliver due to internet shopping.

Under the heading ‘First class job at Christmas,’ the Rutherglen Reformer said Rutherglen’s MP Tom Greatrex and MSP James Kelly had visited our delivery office in Rutherglen to pass on their thanks and Christmas wishes.

The newspaper said: ‘The Labour pair were introduced to all the postmen and women who are working hard to sort and deliver all the cards and parcels in the Rutherglen and Cambuslang area in the run-up to Christmas.’

Tom Greatrex said: ‘It was great.’
