EAST YORKS: People picking up parcels from Beverley's Royal Mail delivery office can now park in the yard.

Cars had been banned from using the space because of health and safety concerns.

Notices on the main gate and around the site made the ruling clear. But it was frequently ignored because the roads around the Annie Reed Road site have double yellow lines.

Beverley and Holderness MP Graham Stuart, who had urged the company to change its policy, visited the site this week.

He said: "Many constituents contacted me recently to let me know that the Delivery Office had shut the gates to its yard, stopping them from parking there while they collect their undelivered items.

"I took up this issue with Royal Mail and let them know that this problem had to be sorted out, and quickly, especially as this month people are looking forward to receiving Christmas parcels.

"It is excellent news that Royal Mail has listened to my constituents and they will be making parking available in the Delivery Office yard from 10am each day.

"This all adds up to a happier Christmas for everybody."
