You see this is not quite true.silly suffolk wrote: but the facts are if you belong to a union your terms and conditions will be better than those who go it alone.
It's not belonging to a union that improves your terms and conditions it's working for an employer that has a strong union presence.
As you point out yourself non-members benefit from the same terms and conditions that we do so....
In an office that has poor local representation what reason is there for a non-member with no political or ideological affiliation to the trade unions to become a member?
Or what is stopping a member from leaving?
This is the real danger to all of us,not us leaving but those who the union has failed to engage for years, those who the union have only ever seen in pound signs.
You can't blame them for being selfish and leaving because the union has promoted that selfishness.
They probably see HQ as being selfish.
They probably see their local rep as being selfish.
They see non-members getting exactly the same as they do but without the subs.
You can't lecture them about the long term consequences because they probably don't see a long term future for either themselves or the union in Royal Mail.
The only answer is a return to proper organisation, engagement and accountability but i'm not sure the present bunch are up to it suffolk.
