Ipswich: Talks held over future of postal sorting office

SENIOR figures from Ipswich Borough Council have had “positive” talks with Royal Mail over the future of the town’s sorting office.

Last month Royal Mail started a six-month review of the future of the Commercial Road office, which employs 230 sorting staff and is a base for hundreds of delivery staff working in the Ipswich area.

The borough owns the building and the site, and yesterday council leader David Ellesmere and chief executive Russell Williams met senior officials from Royal Mail.

Mr Ellesmere said it was still “early days”, but the borough had made its point about the importance of the sorting office.

He said: “There were no firm conclusions from the meeting at this stage, but we feel it was very positive and it is important to talk about the situation.”

Mr Ellesmere said he hoped to have further meetings with Royal Mail in the next few months.

However locally we presented a 10,000 signature(!) petion protesting the closure of our DO (>50 staff) and we we still relocated (at the same time as revisions were started!!) in October.. !!

If you don't want it to happen you're gonna have to fight it HARD :evil/mad
