FIRE crews were called to a postal sorting office last night (Thursday, December 20) after a lorry caught fire outside the premises.
Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service attended the Royal Mail building in Ford End Road, Bedford at 9.05pm after receiving reports that a lorry was alight on the property.
The blaze is believed to have been caused by a fire in the brakes of the vehicle and was extinguished with a hose reel.
No one is said to have been injured in the incident which was contained by the fire service shortly afterwards.

Re: Lorry fire at Royal Mail sorting centre
the lorry was on hire and was reported with rear brakes smoking the day before a garage came out and looked at the lorry and said the was no fault found ..so the same driver drove the lorry to bedford mail centre and noticed that the rear of the lorry was on fire and put the fire out himself then the bedford fire service was called and made the lorry safe ..(Well done driver for saving the lorry and the sorting office).the fire service checked the heat of the rear wheels and said it was 120c and could have exploded and advised that he should have left it as it could have endangered him....TrueBlueTerrier wrote:http://www.bedfordshire-news.co.uk/News ... 095300.htm
