You weren't allowed to go for more than 10 minutes or twice a day. The piss sheets were checked and recorded by an office manager (I kid you not) and if there was found to be a 'pattern' you would be called before a manager about 3 months later to explain why you had gone to the toilet at roughly the same time for three days running ! Which of course you couldn't even remember by then. You would then be given a warning about 'abusing the priviledge of being allowed to go the toilet'!
I would be buggered then - I can set my clock by the times I visit the cubicles 0530 - 0730 everyday without fail, even on days off and Sundays.

And before that, must have been about 30 years ago, managers would sometimes refuse to let you go if it was too busy.
They stopped that though after one bloke on being told he couldn't leave the floor proceeded to piss up the side of a sorting frame - he went on to become a rep and CWU Branch Secretary.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
