You can get away with not being a great public speakers but you cannot be a good rep if you cannot stand being unpopular , if you cannot stand confrontation and if you cannot stand you ground against Managment when your in the right.

hard work and good intentions only get you so far , bottle and courage and the determination to do the right thing whatever the consequences is the key factor in a good union rep.

Could I ask you a question?

Of the 50% of offices which revisions have come in so far, are the members using trolleys? Having breaks? coming in at their scheduled start time? Have cars been stopped being used?

If the the answer is yes, I would ask how you have got members to change their ways of working, as the rest of the country seems to be having major problems with this.

If the answers are no, then I would say that these are failed revisions.

Many thanks

Keep up the good work.
Out of the 50 per cent of revisons introduced we have had a few problem offices , Premier Park which houses 6 west London offices but is actually in North West London had problems as the tools do not recognise that offices which are 30 and in some cases 40 minutes to their actually postcode and address points was intially a problem but delivery spans had to then be reduced and jobs put back i.

Kilburn was a disaster intially but has been improved but still has its moments. Battersea has its problems some walks need replying and that is currently being done. Some PIRs are still needed in some offices but there are no significant problems.

The reports and my own observations are the tools are being used. Perhaps we have more senior managers in and around London and the tools which are mandatory are being used in the majority of cases. I cannot guarantee that they are being used every day as I would be guessing as I am not in every office.

Now in terms of people coming in early I believe that Indivduals who always come in early still come in early. I am not sure how you stop this , the union has tried for decades and members still come in early as they believe that they will make the equivalent time at the end of their duty. Very few I believe would start early if they finished at the time they were meant to finish.

However whilst I accept your point about the tools being used is a judge on whether the revison is working or not , I don't share your view about judging whether a revison is working or not by if people start on time or work their breaks.

The fact is if both of those decided whether an office was failing or not then I believe the majority of offices in the UK have been failing under every revison in the last 3 decades.

heyyy was wandering i see this a lot on here about coming in early,,,were lucky enough to have the revision put of till after christmas,,,,,but weve had the indoor revision,,,flows and backless fittings,,,,and from day 1 of this management stopped all staff from being on the office floor before start time,,,that was months ago and still to this day nobody touches a letter till the start time,,,,,is this an exception or is it cos weve not had the pressures of an outdoor revision.

a day or 2 into this indoor change i did go to me walk 6-7 mins early and got took in the office over it LOL....ok like i said that was months ago before the summer.

From the Royal Mail Section Secretary Annual Report – 2012 Eastern No4 Branch.
http://www.cwu-e4.co.uk/Royal%20Mail%20 ... 202012.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Business Transformation 2010 & Beyond

Again this cannot be a record of every twist and turn taken throughout the year on this
subject. Rather, the idea is to supply a flavour of key events from the past 12 months.

Revisions were deployed across the Branch to the following offices, Stevenage, Hitchin,
Haverhill, Newmarket, Saffron Walden, along with parts of Cambridge PDO.

The Cambridge revision still has not been fully implemented, which speaks volumes on
the planning mess that features at this office. The aim is to complete this piece work by
the end of the financial year. One small success was that we did manage to get the
remaining £200 paid out, due to the length of time since the first phase (Div 5) was
deployed in September 2011!

The Post Implementation Review (PIR), the sixth step in the revision project, is
becoming incredibly difficult to get them (Royal Mail) to complete. Currently PIR’s that
are outstanding feature in the following Offices – Biggleswade (introduced early 2011)
Newmarket, Haverhill, Saffron Walden and Hitchin.

Stevenage’s revision was an operational disaster but, unlike Cambridge, the whole town
had to be implemented, because each section impacted upon the other parts. Following
deployment there has been a complete change of management personnel, high level
visits from Royal Mail national senior management, including Steve Cameron and the
Company’s top leader Mark Higson.

This year, in January, Stevenage processing closed and Hitchin moved across in August
to Stevenage. The staff car park was always going to be a problem, right from the
start; this was explained by us and understood by all parties. Yet, come the date of the
big move, no extra spaces were provided, so the decision was made to allow staff to
take home Royal Mail OMVs. The word U-turn was a feature of 2012, where something
was introduced, only to have to revert back merely months later. This was most
apparent at Stevenage MPU. The decision to allow former Hitchin staff to take OMV’s
home was reversed in early November, as Royal Mail intends to purchase off-site
parking. At the time of writing this report the issue still rumbles on.

What is developing is an increased level of peer – yes, peer - pressure being applied to
the OPG’s in delivery, a point acknowledged by CWU at national level, too: it cannot
help that some of our members are not using correct delivery methods, or come in
early, cut corners, etc., because all that happens is those that do the job in the correct
fashion and cannot complete their deliveries are being subjected to more pressure from
management. Most certainly, the issue of unacceptable levels of pressure (peer- or
managerial-) on OPGs will feature in 2013.

It has been a continuing saga to get our members that work in many of the SG SPDO’s
their transformation money, it is hoped that this will be brought to a conclusion early in
2013.
Hertford failed revision of 2011, it took all of our efforts to re-open this revision and to
get it categorised as a walk sequencing revision, and this re-worked plan should be
deployed before the end of the financial year. Revisions are planned for Letchworth,
Royston, Ware and Sandy in 2013.

I think we'll take it as a given that the majority of offices failed. I just could'nt keep up with all the stuff coming in.
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet

Prestwick is still f****d ... even though Dsm thinks it is running smoothly .... the amount of O/t being booked is nuts only a couple of deliveries are the correct 4hrs 15 minute span agreed ... basically I am the only one working to my time

https://www.myroyalmail.com/sites/default/files/styles/full/public/images/news/Perfect%20postcode.jpg?itok=IFKWg21rColleagues in Wolverhampton are using postcodes to sort mail

Wolverhampton delivery office now uses postcodes to sort mail manually as part of its new outdoor revision.

World Class Mail champion Mohammed Mansoor said: ‘We decided to combine WCM tools with the outdoor delivery revision.’

‘Learning any new sorting system for the mail that can’t go through the machines is tricky and using the last three digits of the postcode makes it easier.

‘As postcodes are never split across walks, it makes sense, although streets sometimes are.’

Line manager for the WV10 area, Dean Whitehouse says: ‘The IPS sorting team, working together with our World Class delivery team, came up with the idea, which has enabled us to have two chances of sorting all mail correctly at the first attempt.’

Adrian Parsons is one of the postmen who has helped perfect the new process. He says: ‘It’s a good system, especially when you’re new to a round.’

‘Using postcodes makes it easier to start and it makes everything go more smoothly and quickly.’

Post codes never split across walks beg my pardon? it is unavoidable in ours as post codes are shared across maybe up to 3 walks,if you try and split it up it causes all kinds of problems, but you can add Canterbury DO to your list of failing offices, there are others down here failing as well, has anyone found an office that is not failing. :wave

Is your office failing with the new revision? PM me the office and Postcode (as most cities have more than 1 office)for anonymity and I'll put it on the list. Lets see how many are failing and have'nt hit the headlines yet. I don't want to put in the reports from the press just yet, rather it was from the horses mouth :cool

If your office is in the list and is not failing anymore then please let us know.

That list was started in 2010 according to the quoted post, a bit out of date I would imagine. A new list
needs to be started.

Ah right, have we been failing that long. :Very Happy
