Postmen and women across Leeds are working hard to deliver seasonal post in time for Christmas Day.
At Leeds’s largest mail centre in Stourton an extra 170 seasonal workers have been drafted into help the existing team of 700 deliver to 658,000 addresses in Leeds, Harrogate and Wakefield.
The centre is also responsible for sending out mail collected from York.
And an extra 64 vans have been added to the fleet of 200 vehicles.
David Hague, Leeds Mail Centre’s production manager, said: “A recent survey showed 80 per cent of people prefer the personal touch of posting a card at Christmas - the average person will post around 19 cards each.
“We’ve certainly seen a six per cent growth in parcels over the year due to more and more people shopping online, and that is no different at Christmas while the number of letters being posted are around the same as last year.”
He added: “Post as normal and we’ll make every effort to get everything posted by Saturday delivered by Christmas Day. We aim to clear everything up to Sunday.”
