All RM casuals were transferred to Angard last year before Christmas and Angard provided casual resource to RM sites throughout this year. RM did not have their own pool of casual resources - everyone had to join Angard. RM have hired most of the additional casuals for Christmas this year.
Not sure how this will happen as Angard is RMs provider of casual resource throughout the year. RM are not supposed to have their own pool of casuals - this is the whole point of why RM created and own Angard. Unless this is the end of Angard!!

Yes sort of rubs salt into the wounds!! Good luck with the offer but BEWARE anything RM offers or does may lead, in the longer term, to a major shafting!!

Re: Been offered work after Christmas ..
Same as any big company ,my last employment ended after my ''job role '' was deleted ... Me and and my colleagues across the country made redundant ...Including folks who had worked for them 20 years +......

I'd guess most people over a certain age have been made redundant, whereas many young people have no right to redundancy at all.
If RM want to get rid of Angard they should transfer existing "Year round" casuals back to RM first, before secretly setting up their own 'Year round' casual system again at a shop floor level.

Re: Been offered work after Christmas ..
If your contract is for 8 weeks it's must be your "Xmas casual" colleagues who they don't want to know! - but I don't see how they can employ anyone after that without a transfer to Angard (they have no formal arrangement with Manpower and the like)verbal wrote:No one has said how long , so it might be just till the work runs out ,.. 8 weeks till my contract terms run out so at least hoping for that,,,

This stinks for Angard workers (or non workers in a few cases!).ennabee wrote:If your contract is for 8 weeks it's must be your "Xmas casual" colleagues who they don't want to know! - but I don't see how they can employ anyone after that without a transfer to Angard (they have no formal arrangement with Manpower and the like)verbal wrote:No one has said how long , so it might be just till the work runs out ,.. 8 weeks till my contract terms run out so at least hoping for that,,,
AWR avoidance pure and simple. RM will go back to employing you for 12 weeks then a break of 2 weeks etc etc.

Re: Been offered work after Christmas ..
The situation SHOULD be
Short Term, Xmas only Casuals - Royal Mail Employees
Year Round Casuals (inc. Xmas) - Angard Employees
Occasional emergency - Manpower, City Centre etc.
AWR are rights gained when an Agency worker has the same placement for 12 weeks with no more than a 6 week gap. The rights are to have the same wages and conditions as regular workers. So six weeks without at least one shift in a 'Year Round Casuals' placement would save Angard/RM a lot of money.
What is AWR?
The Agency Workers Regulations (AWR) was implemented in the UK on 1st October 2011. The purpose of the regulations is to provide temporary workers with equal treatment in terms of basic working and employment conditions as if they had been employed directly to do the same job. The rights will apply after a 12 week qualifying period.
Following the 12 week qualifying period the temporary workers will be entitled to equal treatment, including; pay, working hours, overtime, breaks, holidays and access to training and collective facilities. Equal treatment does not apply to sick pay or paternity/maternity leave.

Re: Been offered work after Christmas ..
It's an automatic right but without chasing up Angard (for one) don't always apply it on time. They have to back date it in that case though.
