Re: Closure of Portsmouth Mail Centre
They'll need to be. For POMC the writing was on the wall some years back, when, like Derby, Gloucester, etc, in RM someone somewhere decided they wouldn't be getting the iLSMs etc and that was basically the kiss of death.
No matter what "consultation" or "review" RM carry out the end result has already been decided a while back. There's no new spares for the MTTs or NP4000s so reduction to a "super DO" is inevitable.
Very sad though, as the're a good bunch in Pompey, unlike the miserable whingers in the neighbouring SOMC...

AFAIK POMC has an iLSM. In any case what equipment any office has means s**t, any office can be cleared out of it's equipment over the course of a weekend (probably a week at most).Tman wrote:They'll need to be. No it doesn't, it has NPs and MTTs, but anyway it's unlikely that any iLSM-equipped office would have them removed so soon after installation. There's more to installing/removing machines than simply disconnecting and stripping them anyway.

I think it's going to be interesting when PO and SO become one happy Mail Centre hence why they are leaving BH/DT out of the mix for the minute. I reckon you'd need at least 10years for them to come together as one and thats including the management too

Cheers for that, but when we close something must change for IOW mail.Tman wrote:They'll need to be. Distribution drivers at POMC come under logistics now so transfers may be possible for them - some even have HGV1 and 2, or they could take EVR and then go to Manpower. Just hope the guvnors get hammered along with the acting ones

Yes and their press are showing an interest already. Perhaps POMC should get some sort of campaign going on IOW.Pompey Boy wrote:Cheers for that, but when we close something must change for IOW mail.Tman wrote:They'll need to be. Re: Closure of Portsmouth Mail Centre
Any office which has had iLSMs installed is safe. This was a multi-million pound project and the installation costs are large. This was why they are only installed in MCs that are safe. Just look at the offices which have them, apologies if I have missed any:-
Aberdeen
Glasgow
Edinburgh
Warrington
South Mids
Peterborough
Norwich
Swindon
Medway
Jubilee
Greenford
Mount
Croydon
Dorset
So Dorset will not close, it is in an area classed as remote, hence the use of the air network.
CSS machines are different, much more easy to move around.

Re: Closure of Portsmouth Mail Centre
I'm not so sure about that one as machines can be moved even ILSMs. Also with Bournemouth it could fit in with a Super Mail Centre on that part of that coast. Don't they also handle the Channel Islands mail at the Bournemouth Air Hub?dodger162 wrote:Any office which has had iLSMs installed is safe. No-one wants any Mail Centre to close as the migration causes more problems then it solves and also lets be honest it's a scary time for the people concerned and alot of people never like change especially when they have only a few years to go before they retire.
I think the main problem is that we have bosses who are sorted before the closures are ever discussed and they don't care.
