That was just the start. Once the river had burst its banks and flooded homes, they delivered as much mail as possible under very difficult circumstances, giving up their own time and working well beyond their duty.

Fantastic effort

Delivery director Wayne Jay said: ‘I’m so proud of our colleagues at Ruthin. It was a fantastic effort by DOM Dave Edwards and his team. They did everything possible to help customers when they needed it most, which is a fantastic testament to them as a team. The kind hearted nature of Royal Mail staff never ceases to amaze me.’

The team’s efforts have won warm praise from all quarters. An officer from the fire service thanked colleagues, saying without their help much more water damage would have been inflicted on local residents.

The local MP and union rep have also paid tribute to their heroics, describing them as integral members of the community they serve.

DSM Richard Moulton said: ‘It was an amazing gesture and I’d like to thank everyone at Ruthin delivery office for being so kind hearted. The positive feedback from the local community has been quite exceptional. We could not have asked for more from our amazing colleagues.’
