And if not, he bloody well should be.

he owns a tiny stake in the business but licenses the brand name. He's not even on the Virgin Media board, the company is run Neil Berkett.

Forgive me if I am wrong, but I have a bad feeling that the Union is being used again by Royal Mail to do it,s dirty work. Has anyone noticed that there has been no major backlash from Royal Mail regarding a possible boycott of dsa mail. No mention that this might even be illegal, no mention of possible sanctions against our members if they support the action.
Why now has the Union decided to consider this action after years and years of Royal Mail being paid a pittance for dsa, and now being able to charge more realistic fee.
Could it be that Royal Mail now consider dsa to be a major problem regarding the sell off, and now have given Billy and Dave some form of incentive to organise the Troops against dsa in order to achieve their goal of privitisation.

defo a bit fishy.
maybe the union do see it as a way of stiffling the sell off mind.

thinking of the sell off.

if all the cuts have been made possible (or overdone ) where else can the new company make more profits??

higher prices is one way
changing the management structure lol
do away with the uso

dont see too much else scope as increasing delivery sizes isnt really an option anymore.

most rivatised companies outsource work

they arent going to be able to change our contracts and offer less without a massive fight fromt he union....the fight would cause financial problems for the new owners......branson knows this.

This is why the government is trying to change the TUPE law's and everyone knows distribution have been largely untouched from day one.

Also, If we do get privatised what does it mean for our jobs? would being in the union help safe guard our job? :hmmmm

No doubt when RM gets sold off the letters and parcel deliveries will be split into 2 businesses and stand alone on their own merits on counterbility and profitability....

As letters drop to a point of not viable to deliver on a daily basis.... collection points seem the next step forward... in some areas and spread around the country depending on how big a drop over how long...

Parcels and packets on the other hand are not a problem..as growth is the way forward in this part of the business.... and big profits... fuelled by massive growth in internet buying and selling, which is growing yearly...closing many shops around the uk as living proof....

So it makes sense to split the 2 as they go their seperate ways... one will have big growth ... the other slow losses.

Basic logic really........ as our shopping habits change..to a more internet based shopping society ....

70,000 food shopping deliveries by just one supermarket chain out of norwich per year, proves the strength and change of use of the internet also creating a steady loss of full time jobs...into part time jobs... the internet shopping society is well and truely here to stay...

When the likes of Amazon have 80 massive wharehouses around the world..with up to 1 million sales an hour in peak times, how many shops in the uk will close, in internet growth in the next 10 years... doubling Amazon`s sales and doubles the amount of RM deliveries and other and new carriers getting onboard the delivery ....bandwagon.

they can try.
gonna have a massive fight ont heir hands though as this would be a massive step backwards for employment rights.

as it stands if a company is going under the laws are slightly different.
not when one is just being bought out.

The union will have little say in the matter if its sold off..... like they have had little say in the changes the past 5 years...

The Union may have little say, though I doubt that, in what actually happens but hopefully they will loud while they are doing it.

Also it might be worth everyone reading up on TUPE as thats what may affect us the most.

I'm not really convinced TUPE will cover an IPO. :nervous
Even if it does protection under TUPE is very limited.
