I think you will now have to get it back from HMRC as RM wont refund youCareer wrote:also, now they took £71 off my casual pay (a whole 25-26%!!!) Will I need to include a letter to ask for it back when I send P45 off to sheffield?

Don't hold your breath, given how many people are starting at the moment!!!Career wrote:Awesome.
So if I send my P45 off to the peoples at sheffield, they will hopefully sort it out and the tax will be returned on my next payslip....if they pull their finger out quick enough.

Re: P45??
I sent a p60 form to Sheffield about a month ago. In the place I'm at, you could leave P45's/P60's etc at the office part of the building and they would then send them on to Sheffield. Or you could just do what other people did and post it, expect it to land in Portugal or something with them sorters though. Useless some of them.

I was taxed £47 including National Insurance Contributions this week, a slightly lower amount than some of the people I'm working with. It was just my understanding that all tax before £8,000 for that year was yours as long as you aren't on an emergency tax code? If I sent the form a month ago and I'm on a 810L/1 tax code does that mean I'm on emergency tax or am I being taxed correctly? Sorry to go slightly off topic, but it's a bit useless making a new thread for a one post reply.

Re: P45??
What is an emergency tax code? http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/incometax/emergency-code.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
An emergency tax code is a code that your employer or pension provider uses on a special basis until HMRC has enough information about your income to enable HMRC to send them (and you) your correct code. It normally makes sure that you get the basic Personal Allowance (and therefore some tax-free pay) but doesn't take into account any other allowances or reliefs you may be entitled to. Your employer or pension provider will normally keep using it until HMRC tells them what your correct tax code should be.
The emergency tax code is set each year and is a number followed by the letter L. The number is the basic Personal Allowance (£8,105 for the tax 2012-13) divided by 10. The emergency code for 2012-13 is therefore 810L.
Depending on how it's worked out, you might also see '810L W1' or 810L M1' (meaning 'Week 1' or 'Month 1' - whereby you get a proportion of the Personal Allowance over the remainder of the tax year).
810L also happens to be the tax code you'’ll get if you are entitled to just the basic Personal Allowance but in this case it is not an emergency code and you will receive the right amount of tax-free pay. See the section 'When you might be put on an emergency tax code' to help you decide whether the emergency tax code might apply to you.

Re: P45??
Lucky for some.
I sent P45 off today signed for delivery and hopefully they have it monday. They took £71 off me, which I worked out at 25.5% of tax paid on the 44.5hours I worked. OUCH! Itll be like another pay week when I get it back as cant see it being sorted before next pay day.
