If Brown calls a snap election....

Post by Punk »

Could this work in our favour if a general election is called in the next couple of weeks?

Might the pair of w*****s be instructed to resolve the problem before it becomes an embarressment to Brown's campaign?

He aint gonna want us lot hanging round outside DO's and MC's, smoking and having barbecues when he needs us out delivering his shiny lying pamphlets (for f**k all money if they get their way :mad ).

Unlikely, as Labour voters are said to be reluctant to tun out to vote in dark evenings or bad weather, hence May usually the favoured option. Also, after waiting ten years, would Brown risk being the PM with one of the shortest terms in office ?

Heard on the news that they are hiring staff, the kind of staff you need for an election campaign,my own thought is that he will wait untill after the Tory party conference next week, and watch the opinion polls and the results of local by elections before making his mind up.He is a intensly cautious politico,he wont go unless he is 100% sure he will win.I hope he does call an election cos we wont be taking any of the leaflets out and that will be a huge embarressment to him.It would be a great opportunity for us to put our case over. :cfo :lfo

How about if we publicly declare our intention of not voting Labour. I'll never vote Tory, Lib-Dems no thanks. Hope the Greens stand here. How about our family and friends, we must be about 1 million with-held or other party votes, can our Tory, in all but name PM afford to lose that many votes?

I remember years ago whenever there was an election, there would be about a dozen posties from our office out delivering leaflets every evening. The last few times there have been none. I'm thinking seriously of refusing to deliver Labour Election material on moral grounds. The rest are all crap too, but Labour are the biggest con-artists.

On an early election

Post by mailjock »

To be honest I doubt if Brown or his advisors will factor in our position vis-a-vis whether he goes early or not.

There possibly is government pressure behind the scenes on Leighton and Crozier to try and get them to talk us out of striking - but I'm sure there is even more pressure on them to make sure they hold firm to show middle England erstwhile Tory voters that Brown is a safe pair of hands and can stand up to the unions.

In any case I go back to my argument that I made in an earlier thread that Brown will want to wash his hands of our pension blackhole as he won't want the bad publicity or to have to bail it out with billions of £s.

Also, General Elections are fought and won or lost on TV these days and to be honest I don't think the day is that far off when the legal requirement to distribute election material is removed. These days it seems to be of more benefit to crackpot candidates and fringe parties.

Every time you vote you propogate a system that is not in your interests...its not a democracy - its an elected dictatorship. One that keeps the powerful in power.

I hope I'm wrong, but if we're on strike and election material needs delivering, might they just realise that TNT deliver such material now, not that I'm such a conspiracy theorist as to suggest that Brown will call an election soon just to make Royal Mail lose such deliveries to TNT.

According to The Independent last Friday, it's called a 'snap' election because all their policies are exactly the same.
