The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Would be stupid to try to hold together a boycott in 1500 D.O.s when you can cut it off at source in 50 mailcentres.
Especially since most branches, area reps work out of or near MC's.

Members of the CWU presumably - so why would they be ignoring the boycott?SpacePhoenix wrote:All lorries (600 size and up) are normally loaded and unloaded by whoever is driving themclashcityrocker wrote:Unless you simply refuse to unload the lorries.SpacePhoenix wrote: Wouldn't work at MC level

To me this is like turkey's voting for Christmas as they will fire and hire at will if we had done this 6 or 7 years ago we could have saved 60000 job's the pension fund stopped privatisation and the terrible conditions of our members. It is no good bolting the stable door after the horse has bolted and now has gone to the knackers yard!.

Royal Mail Posties' In Boycott Threat
Some deliveries face serious disruption if a union wins backing for a Royal Mail boycott of privately-handled mail.
Postal workers are being urged to refuse to deliver letters from anyone other than Royal Mail in the New Year, in a move which threatens to cause disruption.
Around half of the letters delivered by Royal Mail are collected and sorted by private companies like UK Mail and TNT, who then pay Royal Mail a fee for delivery.
But the Communication Workers Union (CWU) has claimed this arrangement costs Royal Mail money and has led to job losses, price rises and fewer services.
The CWU argues that competition on deliveries is "undermining" the same-price-goes-anywhere universal service, with companies other than Royal Mail not having to meet service and pay standards.
A ballot on a boycott will be held after Christmas.
If passed, this would mean that any mail sent via one of Royal Mail's competitors would not be delivered, the union warned.
Billy Hayes, general secretary of the CWU, said: "Today we're launching a major initiative to protect postal services in the face of mounting threats to jobs and services."
His deputy, Dave Ward, added: "We are not prepared to stand by and watch the jobs of our members be ruined by unfair competition which could be avoided."
Mr Ward also told Sky News the union was opposed to privatisation of Royal Mail. He said: "No private owner is going to sustain the universal service that doesn't make money."
In response to the boycott threat a Royal Mail spokesman said: "All of the mail that we handle is important to us and needs to be delivered, as we always do, six days a week.
"It is vital to all of us at Royal Mail, to Royal Mail as a business and most importantly to our customers, that the post is delivered."
He added: "As we have previously said, we are concerned about the impact of unfettered direct delivery competition on Royal Mail.
"We will be responding to Ofcom's consultation on direct delivery in due course. Royal Mail supports competition on a level playing field and believes Ofcom should consider competition in the light of its primary duty of securing the six-day-a-week, one-price-goes-anywhere universal service."

Problem is it might just move the DSA access to a week previous or after the strike week (if we go on Anti DSA strike a week) so it will hit us hard with more work, unless it is your week off.

Re: "Big Announcement" Tuesday 4th December
Some of the stuff that now goes DSA probably got moved over because it's probably cheaper but some woud have gone over because DOs round the country used to leave any MS3 that arrived on a Saturday. A lot of the letters and flats that go DSA are things that people could get sent electronically so we'll probably never get back as RM 1C/2C or MS. For packets they've got more choice so we might not necessarily get it back as 1C or 2C, we might loose the work completely. Without DSA jobs would probably go in MCs and DOs.dvbuk55 wrote:No what he's saying is they haven't got the bottlefishtank wrote:Are you honestly saying it would get done because you wouldn't have any room otherwise?SpacePhoenix wrote: Wouldn't work at MC level

I think the bulk of the DSA comes in on early shifts, if it does then there is no way that any early shift in any MC will turn DSA work down as it's probably all (between that and MS) that is keeping some early shifts in existance round the country. Dealing with DSA is the lesser of two evils, would you rather that people loose their jobs?

Re: "Big Announcement" Tuesday 4th December
So what do you want deliveries to do? Accept the DSA but refuse to deliver it in order to keep the early shift in the MC and take the chance of being suspended because we will boycott and you won't.................yes brother that is real solidaritySpacePhoenix wrote:Some of the stuff that now goes DSA probably got moved over because it's probably cheaper but some woud have gone over because DOs round the country used to leave any MS3 that arrived on a Saturday. What do you think stands between a delivery OPG and the dole queue?SpacePhoenix wrote:there is no way that any early shift in any MC will turn DSA work down as it's probably all (between that and MS) that is keeping some early shifts in existance round the country. Parcels apart,if i had boycotted DSA today i would have prepped my shift in about 8 minutes and delivered it in half an hour.
We all have jobs we have to protect or lose.
How do you think the early shifts are going to get on if End to End is allowed to cherry pick the densely populated areas?
Sorting DSA for the Highlands and Islands isn't going to keep many in work.

Re: "Big Announcement" Tuesday 4th December
RM seem to have taken the news with some aplomb and I am not surprised. Looking at it from a members point of view I failed to see how this action was going to go in any measure in dealing with deliveries problems and unifying the national agreement . What it does do is enhance RMs case in getting more money from the DSA businesses and strengthens its case with Ofcom and is that really the role that the CWU has found itself to be in. As a big announcement it was the worlds worst kept secret and as a measure to represent the members who pay their way it's a disgusting sham.
