Having been placed in a similar situation with mail diverted from an office involved in industrial action the next step would usually be on with the jackets and off to the gate.
Or is that a bit too militant for some?

I think it IS too militant for some - our office has walked on two occasions but not in the last 7 years, even though I believe there has been at least one occasion when it was justified. There no longer appears to be a unified atmosphere in the DO, like there was some years ago - some are obviously driven because of their personal financial constraints which they put above all else and in this day and age perhaps that is understandable to some extent particularly with the short term part time contracts. The last time we walked was when a member was told to do something when we were in dispute - he refused, was suspended and everyone walked.................I just wonder if given the same circumstances that would apply today...........I'm not really a betting man but I don't think they would.

Boycotting DSA for one day would be a joke, the delivery postie would get hammered the next day .
I really believe that boycotting DSA is just a way of starting a national strike, postie will start getting suspended for wilful delay and offices would walk out all over the country in support, Or would they? But that I believe is the many objective of boycotting DSA.

I think boycotting it for one day would be a statement...nothing more,not designed to screw up the pipeline but to bring attention to the issue,that's why they will announce it at this conference tomorrow in front of Moya and the boss of TNT.
I also think if Royal mail believed it was only for one day they would probably step back from suspending members and escalating the issue.

The union is in a tricky position over DSA,legally and from the point of view that the whole idea is to discourage end to end cherry picking not encourage it by forcing competitors to deliver more of their own.

It's fraught with issues and potential dangers for the union.
Is it covered as a "trades dispute"?
It might be,it might not,personally i would doubt it.
Is there adequate legal protection for members from breach of contract?
Is the union protected from legal action from the likes of TNT?
Is the pay off from one day worth the risk?
It's dodgy stuff.

I don't know if the date has been chosen and if there's any wiggle room but I would hope so for exactly the reasons you highlight. What on earth would the boycott do to adress the real problems we face under BT2010. I ask myself if this a real issue or merely smoke and mirrors to lull the troops into thinking that there is still some life in the old dog.

I agree it is a statement of intent, but to the members in delivery it will be laughed upon. So much remains un-answered, if we don't take out DSA for one day, what do members do to work their remaining hours for that day? Royal mail may be quite happy as it gives them chance to catch up on packets. The day after members will be under real pressure to catch up. Members in delivery will look at this as a lose - lose situation.

Dodgy indeed.
Not so much boycotting DSA but delaying it for a day, which I don't see how the CWU could defend as being other than 'Wilful Delay'.
Some members suspended for 'Wilful Delay' and what sort of defence would the CWU give, it was okay because we told them to do it ?
Or am I missing something ?

Worst of all, at least in my mind, is that this is a Political stunt and I can't see Delivery members backing a boycott call by the gliteratti unless or until they see positive moves in the issues that face them daily.

Are delivery members really going to put their jobs on the line, even if its sold as a defence of their current pay and conditions or to stop future attacks, especially when some honestly see them as under constant attack for the last 2 years with little or no visible movement from HQ.

Its going to be a real hard sell, even among us "Militants".
