So how exactly would doing the job properly stop bullying and intimidation?Pinky 1 wrote:If i remeber correctly fish, working to rule is classed as industrial action and therefore requires a ballot. I think the phrase we use around our area is

In my experience Royal Mail's answer to doing the job properly is to simply ramp up the bullying, members inevitably crack especially those on short term contracts with no security or part-time contracts who can't afford to turn down overtime, flyers go back to flying, early starters go back to early starting and the whole thing collapses within a fortnight.
It puts no real pressure on management and we get members accused of under performing and line managers standing at the end of every row.
In a conflict situation It achieves the square root of f**k all other than putting the pressure back on members.
The only reason to do the job properly is to protect jobs end of story,it isn't a weapon you can use against your employer to bring them to the table other than making them pay for every minute worked which is how it should be anyway.

My point being that doing the job properly could start tomorrow morning first thing. Working to rule, (requiring a ballot ?) would take more than a month to be able to take any action on. In January our hand is significantly weaker.fishtank wrote:So how exactly would doing the job properly stop bullying and intimidation?Pinky 1 wrote:If i remeber correctly fish, working to rule is classed as industrial action and therefore requires a ballot. I would like to think in an office suffering from intimidation that the majority of members were already doing the job properly.Pinky 1 wrote:My point being that doing the job properly could start tomorrow morning first thing. A work to rule which would need a ballot is in my opinion a non starter, strike action is the only action Royal Mail take note of and although it would be preferable to strike through the busiest time,it won't really matter when it is and you could even argue that after Christmas RM will have fewer resources available to deal with it.

Isn't a ballot a risky idea? A "NO" return will give bullying management the green light to continue what they're doing with impunity.

As for going on strike our office would struggle for a yes vote, primarily from a financial point of view

Correct, and doing the job properly will not cost a penny in wages.Pinky 1 wrote:....... but isn't that 'doing the job properly' ?Budfrog wrote:Working your contracted hours, taking meal reliefs and relaxation allowances, following agreed SSOW and SOPs and working at an acceptable work rate of 75BSI is all that is required and would not require a ballot of any kind.Pinky 1 wrote:If i remeber correctly fish, working to rule is classed as industrial action and therefore requires a ballot. Getting management and planners to do their job properly will be far more difficult to eradicate B&H and ensure that workload is covered by the correct amount of scheduled hours and i don't believe the current lot have either the ability or the will to deliver and this comes from the very top (yes Moya I'm talking about YOU!!!)

Re: Dudley D.O. announce intention to Ballot for Action
It really is time to explode the myth that a work to rule would work - it won't. Twice in my time we have had a work to rule but you had the ususal suspects picking up overtime regardless it lasted two days before the status quo was back; on a second occasion there was a no cars on delivery attempt - management then said if you don't use your car today you won't use it on any day - that didn't even last the day.
So to the "doing the job properly" theory. In an office with 40% plus part timers, many of whom have covered 40 hour duties for months on end and the others prepared to work as much overtime as is available - it would be extremely difficult to ask those members to halve their take home pay - so the cutting off theory is fine - as a theory that is.
What is really needed of course is for the leadership to take on board what has been said since the inception of the BT2010 agreement and get back to a NATIONAL stance.............and I have to say if boycotting DSA for a day is the stance
It would be a little like saying we are NOT delivering Xmas Day and Boxing Day imho the impact would be about the same.

You don't need a ballot for work to rule, as someone earlier said "just do the job properly".

What if an office already is doing the job properly and members are being bullied and harassed on a daily basis?steven100 wrote:You don't need a ballot for work to rule, as someone earlier said "just do the job properly".
What if half an office is and those members in particular are being bullied and harassed on a daily basis?
How are you going to convince the other half to "do the job properly"?
Doing the job properly is an individual aim but that's all it ever will be,to believe that you could convert an entire office or that you could bring management to their senses and stop bullying and harassment just by starting on your time and cutting off requires some industrial strength prescription medication.
There is a certain unwillingness to face up to reality on this thread,an unwillingness to put your money where your mouth is...
A wish to bitch about all that is wrong with Royal Mail without actually having to do anything painful to try to fix it.
I can understand it after the farce of BT2010 but it won't get you anywhere but further down the road to poorer terms and conditions.

Re: Dudley D.O. announce intention to Ballot for Action
You are right ft but in order for the membership to put their money where their mouth is they require two things:
Leadership and
A certain knowledge that their money is being wisely spent - as opposed to 2009
Does the union know what the FT/PT split is? because I believe it is critical in having backing for any real stance the union may have to take and they need to do two things:
Make certain that all part timers are approached for membership
Prove that they take part timers terms and conditions equally as seriously as full timers
I've asked the question umpteen times but there has never been an answer and I just wonder how below the 75/25 split really is.

Your right,I have performance issue's according to RM speak.sgt, rock wrote:Can you be sure of that? They just call you slow, say you can't do the job to a satisfactory standard.
