Re: Bristol strike date announced
no post person wants to lose money by going on strike so there must be something badly wrong in bristol, its clear to every office thats went through a revision that royal mails idea of a fair days work for a fair days pay is completely different to us.
the big problem to me seems to be this geo routing of duties, how on earth the union nationaly agreed to use this bloody way of working is beyond me.

I think if you strike over the Christmas period you also lose your Christmas bonus, so it must be something big to make them walk regardless, everybody has their limits.mailman71 wrote:no post person wants to lose money by going on strike so there must be something badly wrong in bristol, its clear to every office thats went through a revision that royal mails idea of a fair days work for a fair days pay is completely different to us.

Re: Bristol strike date announced
Will they have a strike fund, as their families may suffer hardship because of the industrial action ?

Re: Bristol strike date announced
Would like to think that all branches would have a collection for the Bristol lads/ladies. An average 50p each from 50% of members would go a long way to helping out. For the price of a brew a substantial sum could be collected. I remember gladly putting a pound every week (1984/5) into a collection for the miners that our branch organised. I think the treasurer banked the money and sent a cheque to local NUM.Red Robbo wrote:Will they have a strike fund, as their families may suffer hardship because of the industrial action ?

Im sure most members would chip in to a strike fund but I cant help thinking on the back of HQ trousering back dated holiday money and branches pissing expenses up the wall you wonder if we are all in this together and why there isn't money available for a strike fund in the first place.tetley smooth wrote:Would like to think that all branches would have a collection for the Bristol lads/ladies. Not the same...much worse.dvbuk55 wrote:well three years on the result is exactly the same.
Three years ago HQ more or less had the backing of the membership, certainly in my D.O.
Don't get me wrong they would bitch and moan a bit but the general consensus was HQ no matter how misguided were trying to improve our terms and conditions.
Now,no matter what some think that isn't the case and it's very unlikely that feeling of disengagement will change in the near future.
That's the real legacy from the last 3 years...disinterest in the leadership of the union.
It could be very costly very shortly.

I'm guessing you might mean the boycott of DSA? Must admit a bit surprised CWU being sited in the press as threatening this action, that one would be like a bolt out of the blue for most in my office.fishtank wrote: It could be very costly very shortly.

I totally agree with you ft, I meant that we are back to strikes...........brought about by the very reason that was supposed to alleviate our problemsfishtank wrote:Not the same...much worse.dvbuk55 wrote:well three years on the result is exactly the same.

Just to reinforce what you are saying I spoke to a bloke just today about the reaction of the guy from the MC who thought it best to protect their position and leave it up to deliveries and his reaction was - "Like f*ck, if it turns up here whenever it is I'll be delivering it". So not a popular decision by all accounts and of course the usual question is "Why".

There is already talk amongst the members that this is being driven by Royal Mail, not the Union.Danelectro wrote:I'm guessing you might mean the boycott of DSA? Most were very surprised there was no immediate strong response from the company threatening the union with all sorts.
If that feeling of the union using the members to further a Royal Mail cause takes hold they can forget any ballot.
This is not news to Royal Mail.
They knew of the union's intentions long before the local rep's forums began at the start of November,if Moya looked surprised at the Postal conference on tuesday she was faking it.

What's this I read about a contingency plan Royal Mail have, would it be RM managers drafted in from the South West and told to go out on delivery to show the public it's"business as usual" ????

I take it their is no change on mondays walk out. i will be going to show my support but a 4 hour round trip for it to be called off is not an option
