I've only been a Royal Mail employee for a few months, but my "Statement of Terms & Conditions of Employment" includes "Your initial place of work will be ------. Your hours of work will be allocated to you by your manager. However, these hours may change from time to time after giving you reasonable notice". So it is suggested that I can be made to work whereever and whenever they choose, but presumably this was not the case with older contracts, so when did the change come in ?

For those of you not aware the 48 hour week is avergaed out over 17 weeks and that will be the legal maxium RM can make us work. It also 48 hours gross and not net.

How does this sound....at present, the wagons arrive at the same time every day of the week. Under the new times, the first run will arrive 15 minutes later during the week but 45 mins later on a Saturday. Why so late on the weekend? I'm a family man who doesn't drive so it would seem that the only day that I'll be spending with the kids will be Sunday when all the shops are closed and public transport grinds to a halt (small communty around here, y'see!). Family friendly business, eh?

A letter to branches is going out today to tell people how to deal with it. Effectively, though it will tell them to work the new times cos otherwise they won’t get paid for the hours they do.

The LTB explains why and deals with the fact that obviously we are till trying to get agreement on it.

This statement implies a tempary change in yout hours ( up to 28 consecutive days I believe..... )

BUT Royal Mail are seeking to change your USUAL work time hours PERMENTLY....This according to EU law should be in consultation with the workforce.....

Thats calendar moths Robmacca, four weekly is actually 53 weeks believe it or not, I hope they don't fecking convert to calendar months that would mean another back door pay cut.

I think you've got your maths a bit wrong there.

There are 52 weeks in the year,if you get your pay every 4 weeks then you will get 13 pay slips per year!

just got mine this morning, glad to see its a template, thought my dum was a smart ass but hes just down loaded it from the R.M. BULLSHIT SITE. BUT WE DO NEED TO FIND OUT WHERE WE STAND LEGALLY BEFORE 10TH OCT

i got my template letter yesterday as did most of the guys in my office contacted my area rep and branch sec for advice
my area rep said sit tight for the moment and tell the guys/lasses not to reply to the letter
my branch sec advice said the same but he said its being raised with the unions legal dept and sit tight

I think you've got your maths a bit wrong there.

There are 52 weeks in the year,if you get your pay every 4 weeks then you will get 13 pay slips per year!

What they will probably do is either have a specific day each month for example I get my forces pension every 24th of the month. Or they will pay us the last working/banking day of each month. I think it unlikely that they would pay us every 4 weeks.

Change in my dictionary is "the act or an instance of making or becoming different" which may, or may not, imply temporary - something worthy of more discussion. I'm not optimistic though and if change is interpreted as permanent, and as we're told it's been in contracts for 18 years or so, then it could soon, with reasonable notice, be weekend working in the Orkneys for any of us !

If/when they go to monthly pay they will do it like I had it in a previous job which will be you`ll get payed for 2 weeks your done and 2 weeks in lue(sp) then overtime will be probably monthly.

Trouble with the above and the flexy times they are after is can we really trust these people to be 100% accurate and get it right. These muppets screw holidays up every year so sod knows what they will be like with our cash...

if they are going to go ahead with this then the union should insist on a "clocking on and clocking off" device as they have in factories. So every one works to thier hours and there would be no disputes on what you have/have not worked.
