An 'unofficial' forum for those who either work for Royal Mail or are looking to work for Royal Mail through the Angard Staffing Agency. This is an open forum.
Talking to a couple of Royal mail casuals at work today who started yesterday on 10 hour shifts 12.00-22.00 6 days a week for the next 5 weeks.
Meal breaks were spoke about and they told me that all they got yesterday were 30 mins over a 10 hour shift.
Is that right? That dont seem much for such a long day
If they work more than 6 hours a day, they have the right to one uninterrupted 20 minute rest break during their working day (this could be a tea or lunch break).
And it doesn't have to be paid.
I believe the Angard casuals last year worked 8hr 20 minutes/day for 8 hours pay.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Legally it's right, and Royal Mail don't have to pay for the break either so those casuals may only be earning 9 1/2 hors pay too
Royal Mail employee's would be entitled to a 50 minute break (or a 30+20 min), and be paid for it.

In the Manchester Mail Centre we was given a 40 minute break. It wasn't split into 20 minutes breaks, I would have preferred that, as it only takes me 10 minutes to eat a sandwich and crisp :P. Then I'm bored, and must wait around, start work again and then do 5 hours straight without a break. A few of the lads just said they were going to the toilet, or had to take a quick phonecall and went and got theirselves a coffee.
00:40 - 01:20 was the break time, atleast for us in that centre.

You are employed by an agency at Orton Southgate are you not? RM doesnt pay casuals meal breaks!!!
no im Royal Mail now.
writing it, what I said seems odd, but that is what the Royal Mail guy said to me, maybe I will double check tomorrow.
Odd if true.
Well if you are Royal Mail you're only entitled to a 40 minute break. If you got away with an hours paid break good luck to you
