Has anybody who recieved a Royal Mail Postcard telling them that they will have priroity when it comes to Xmas jobs in 2012 managed to get a job, or like me, was it a waste of time following up the Postcard. I called Royal Mail about this only to be told "Well due to high demand, we cannot ensure everybody gets a position" So why tell people that they can have priority status when applying for positions. I raised this in a complaint with Royal Mail who told me that the Christmas Recruitment team will arrange for the points raised to be investigated and will get back to me with a response. I will let everybody know on here what they say
But in the meantime, what experiences have people had on here with regards to being given priority status for Xmas 2012

Re: Royal Mail Complaint ref: Priority Application Status
It was September/August most people on here received theirs and were able to follow it up soon after that.
I think it was just to alert previous workers to the procedure before it was open to the public

Re: Royal Mail Complaint ref: Priority Application Status
I have recieved the response from Royal Mail, this is what it said
The purpose of asking our previous applicants to apply early is to allow us to prioritise candidates who have worked for us before. We have checked your applications and all information seems to be correct and as such there would be no bearing on us not including you in our priority pool.We can only offer my apologies for the fact that your applications have been overlooked and that you have not been invited to one of our registration events.
The application you made on 06 Oct was a little late as we had received a huge number of candidates from when the roles opened on line from 05 September and as such, we could not have guaranteed your attendance regarding this role. Your first application, however, was made in good time and as such you should have been included in the invitations. Of course, we cannot guarantee to invite all of our candidates to a registration event.
We are sorry for any disappointment this error has caused you. Sadly, as positions have been filled it will not be possible to include you in our pool this year. Please note, though, that this does not affect any future application you may wish to apply for"
The jobs were posted online on 5th September, but I made an application for a job on 4th September, 24 hours before the jobs were posted online, so it looks like despite priority status supposedly giving you a better chance, looks like it hasnot done for me. To say I am angry is an understatement. I will see though if any jobs come up on the site after Christmas and see what happens. Does anybody know if Royal Mail are likely to post Mail Sorter jobs online after Christmas or is it best to register with Recruitment Agencies. Has the Priority Status Postcard sent to people on this forum worked for/against them. I would love to know
Thank You

Re: Royal Mail Complaint ref: Priority Application Status
Hi all
It happened here in plymouth too, nine of us who have worked in r/m for years, we had priority easter cards and all we were put to the end of the list for registration and at that time all the jobs for the three shifts were gone.
After apologies from the managers we were put on priority waiting list, six managed to be taken on three have heard nothing.
150 job centre people were given reg appointments before any of the old hands.
Us six who got jobs started a week after those who have never done it before.
Just as bad as angard.

Re: Royal Mail Complaint ref: Priority Application Status
it just goes to show that priority status means nothing. most of the people i was with at royal mail didnot have a clue what they were doing, and spent most of the shift just chatting and playing on phones, where people like me (and fossymike) do want to work, we cannot, because rather than take on people that know how to do the job and need no training, they just want to employ anybody and everybody
