RM order 120,000 PDA's worth up to 300m

PCs at Royal Mail International and on Redirections were brought specifically to run Vista - then ran into all the problematic that had and reverted to xp (incidentally about the same time that Vistas problems got sorted)
A roll out to Windows 7 is planned but that would mean every single pc being replaced as the current ones are crap.

Why are they wasting money on that, when Windows 8 is out?

Probably the bean counters, windows 7 can run on lower spec computers than Windows 8 so per unit saving when purchased in bulk can add up to a sizeable sum. Also the cloud that RM run, and most of the current software is Windows 7, or soon will be, so less cross platform support as well.

So does this meant then that with this amount of PDA's that Royal Mail are looking at getting I assume that we will all have one each then, or am I wrong? I'm asking as on the Park and Loop deliveries in our office it's one PDA per van.
