Do we have enough full time release members to join in the party - what am I saying, of course we have. This "joined up position" dingo - it's not like "form a circle" is it

Lincox wrote:Dingo, I dont understand the point that Royal Mail are not achieving the savings that were agreed during the revision. The BT2010 was not supposed to be about savings, it was about new structures of working to take account of the change in the things we deliver. ie less mail, more packets. Why has the CWU allowed savings to creep into this mess.
Lincox you are getting confused , Dale Haddons letter talked about BT2010 was not about budget driven issues. However the Business Transformation Agreement was always about making savings , Higson estimated about 340 million by the 3rd year but this has been down dialled several times. The BT agreement is littered with wording around effiency , raising performance. Closing Mail Centres , RDCs , doing revison sin collections, reducing full time staff to 75% , raising the performance of delivery offices up to the top 10%', cutting firm , packets and replishment drivers for CDVs all where about making savings.

if you agreed a revison based on a baseline hours and model week and you are now spending more then of course Royal Mail will review that.

Anyone who thought that Royal Mail's business plan was not about reducing costs must be deluded.

The difference is Dingo is that the savings would come as a RESULT of delivery method changes and efficiency changes not based on budgetary considerations, but they are dragging the savings out of the offices as the first consideration and as a result everyone being given impossible workloads to match their savings targets and it is imploding on them because they do not have the staff to match the workload during the peak periods causing excess overtime payments and line managers having to bully and harass to try and get the work done.

We have requested further dialogue with the employer on this to try and establish the exact nature of this initiative and ensure that we are jointly involved both in terms of the reviews and any outputs they produce.

The initiative has already started, the visits have started, there is no sign of involvement and the position as far as i'm led to believe is still one of non co-operation.
That doesn't sound like an invite to me,it sounds more like a bunch of kids pleading with their parents to come along and the parents finally relenting as long as the kids behave themselves.
This smacks of desperation to me,the CWU should be driving their own reviews, not tagging along with a Royal Mail savings agenda/privatisation led poke about.

If effiency/savings are a priority, why have the RM2000 frames at our place reduced in size to make some walks have ~25-40% "double slots"? Most of the prep process for the second delivery point in each slot will add at least 10 seconds per slot, which could easily turn into 60 minutes of inefficient prep on a 600+ delivery point walk.

Why are Royal Mail failing to acknowledge that our packet counts per walk are going through the roof and consequently making most walks unachieveable most days, because thier newer rounds are based off obsolete packet data? Their model is based on a 3% attendence call rate, so 18 attendence calls (including Recorded/Specials/Tracked) for a 600 drop walk, most have double this on a "good day" and quadruple this on a "bad day" outside Xmas pressure.

Why have walks been allowed to remain at around the same number of delivery points following revision, when delivering by pouch is clearly quicker than pushing a HCT everywhere? A 600 drop walk pre-revision will take approximately the same time as ~450 drops post-revision, with the same number of attendence calls.

What is with linos doing unofficial prep tests that do not provide a solid foundation for any sort of performance issues? Without an accurate breakdown of what Jack/Jill has prepped (no. of sequenced/unsequenced letters; no. of D2D prepped; no. of packets; no. of deads; no. of redirections etc.), how can anything meaningful be concluded about whether Jack/Jill were prepping at a reasonable rate for prep to take 2 or 2.5 hours?

How can guideline sheets be printed on each frame that suggest that all prep and bundling up can be done in 2 hours including 20 minutes meal relief, when the walk gets approx. 2.5 trays of sequenced; 6 trays of manual; 2.5 sacks of packets; 5 D2D; 40 redirections; ~20 deads most days? It is no wonder we get out late by some margin (30-60 minutes) most days.

Why are managers being allowed to not enforce correct delivery methods tools out on delivery, even failing to give the training pre-use, because they know full well that correct SSOW procedure rather than carrying by pouch will take longer and hit their depot savings and consequent manager bonuses?

I've done a fair few different jobs in my time, but nothing comes close to the farce that is Royal Mail.

WHAT HE SAID - SPOT ON - :Applause

They'd rather we take one boring letter to every one of 750 houses every day rather than reduce the number of calls to get the packets and oversize packets out. It's time priorities were sorted out and get rid of dsa and foreign spam , leaving it til the quiet days when it's not urgent!
Why are lino's paid full-time ??

I am sad to say I to left after 40 odd years service with stress (medically retired). I have to say my DOM and my rep were very supportive, but I just felt I was not up to doing the delivery they expected me to do anymore. The situation was that some of the runners in the office were saying the duty was possible. Since I have left the people who have taken over the delivery can't complete. I was treated fairly by everyone but the pressure to save hours coming from on high is immense.
Sad to hear my old DOM has now been taking to hospital with a suspected heart attack, it just shows the stress decent managers must be under too! I may struggle with money a bit now but healthwise best decision I ever made, even though I miss the lads and the work, I don't miss the constant pressure.

To: Branches with POSTAL Members

Dear Colleague,

Voice Article - Delivery under Pressure - Bullying and Harassment Survey

Branches will wish to know that there has been an overwhelming response to the Voice article on Bullying and Harassment titled “Delivery under Pressure”.

Many emails have been received by the department and hundreds of surveys have also been received and are continuing to be received. This has been one of the most responded to campaigns, if not the most responded to campaign initiative that the department has ever conducted.

Whilst at this point in time it can be deemed a success in terms of the response, the worrying aspect of course is the scale of Bullying and Harassment being meted out to our members on a regular basis. We are determined that something will be done and we will be raising this formally with Royal Mail at a ‘Summit’ meeting on the 17th December 2012. This will be the start of the campaign to put an end to this obscene misconduct that many of our members have to endure on an all too frequent basis.

It is time for Royal Mail to put their money where their mouth is and ensure that Bullying and Harassment is eradicated from every workplace forthwith and our members are treated with dignity and respect at all times. We’ve had the words now we want to see the action.

In closing it would be appreciated if Branches and Representatives could ensure that a message of thanks is conveyed to all of our members who have taken the time and courage to come forward with their experiences and to let them know we will be doing all we can to bring their ordeal to an end. If there are more members out there who have yet to come forward please advise them that we have had a tremendous response, and that all replies received are being treated as confidential and that they will have the full support of the CWU.

This month’s frequently asked questions?

Q. The Delivery Office I work in has recently had a visit from a company looking at whether the revision we have undertaken is working, did the CWU agree to this?

A. NO and there is no need to cooperate with anything they do or ask you.

I think that says it all really. :cuppa

I had a good chat with the one that came to our office. Told them about the total lack of leadership in the office and how the managers threaten and intimidate staff to cover their own management failings. For once a vistior that actually wrote it all down and i saw them later on a laptop so presume typing it all up.

They then went home and had their evening meal and that's the last you'll hear of that..............we've seen it all before, it's usually the caring kid glove/interest angle that makes you think someone actually gives a crap only to find that the next move is closing off any avenue of leeway there may have been and to expect more of the same.

Maybe, maybe not. All i know is our spend has gone through the roof since revision, sickness has also gone way up, morale is lower than low and we are all pissed off. We never had anyone visit our office till this year, and now we have manager after manager, planner after planner, directors the lot. No harm in telling someone how i feel as i think from all the emails sent from our place they already have a good idea. To see a sheepish/nervous manager watching like a hawk who talks to the visitor is enough to make me feel things will get reported back.
