I am writing in response to your recent request for information dated 24 March 2012 which has been considered under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act 2000. You requested the following information:
“Could you tell me how much money was paid out in bonus payments to managers and
directors in 2010?”
Royal Mail Group holds information relevant to your request. However, this information covers the financial year rather than the calendar year. Information has therefore been provided for the 2010-11 financial year, the most recent for which figures are available and which runs until March 2011.
Royal Mail Group already publishes a report on Directors’ remuneration in our Annual Report and Accounts. The most recent report can be found on our website at: http://www2.royalmailgroup.com/sites/de ... oof_41.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; The relevant information is on page 46 of the 2010-11 Annual Report. It is important to note that bonus payments are significantly below the on-target levels in light of the Group’s performance amid very challenging market conditions.
Information is also held concerning the bonus payments made to managers within Royal Mail Group. For the financial year 2010-11, 14,923 managers were paid a total of £24,986,626 performance-related bonuses. This figure should be seen against Royal Mail Group’s £5,242 million pay and pension costs in the 2010-11 financial year and it amounts to 0.5% of this overall total. The average bonus paid to managers was £1,674 in the 2010-11 financial year. Royal Mail Group’s approach to management remuneration is to avoid any situation where managers are rewarded irrespective of performance. Instead, bonuses have to be earned. In 2010-11, Group operating profit fell compared to the previous year and as a result, across the management population, around two thirds of the potential bonus payments available were not paid.
If for any reason you are not satisfied with this response, you do have the right to request a review. If you wish to do so, please set out in writing your grounds of appeal and send it to the Head of Information Compliance, Royal Mail Group, Company Secretary's Office, 100 Victoria Embankment, LONDON, EC4Y 0HQ. An internal panel will then review the request and you will be advised of the outcome. If you decide to appeal and are still not satisfied with our response you also have a right to appeal to the Information Commissioner at:

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

15,000 Managers.POSTMAN wrote:£25Mill for that shower of s**t.
145,000 Non-managers.
A ratio of more than 1 manager for every 10 members of staff.
That's a seriously top heavy management structure for a business that basically does the same thing in 1,500 business units.
Put it this way if they franchised those 1,500 units tomorrow could they honestly find work for 10 managers in each unit?
Maybe 2 to cover HR,payroll and other non-ops stuff,3 to cover operations and 1 to run the show.
What would the other 4 do?
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Is this not the year when Moya announced that the company was devoid of value and therefore colleague shares were worthless.

Yeah but remember: "It is important to note that bonus payments are significantly below the on-target levels in light of the Group’s performance amid very challenging market conditions. "
So that was nice of them...
Just like colleague shares were significantly below value based on the Group's performance amid very challenging market conditions. W*nkers.

Bloody outrageous to say the least.Information is also held concerning the bonus payments made to managers within Royal Mail Group. What performance-related work?
A rhetorical question but I'll say it anyway.
So does that mean that while we work our socks off they get to be paid their bonuses for standing around doing sod-all while we do the graft, enduring all the crud thrown at us, work excess, covering lapsed deliveries, covering cutoffs etc, while they get to pick up £1,674 while we won't get the bonuses that are owed us because "we are not making a profit" or whatever other excuses management seem fit to cite.
Fekkers!

It may amount to 0.5% of the total wage bill, but what does it amount to in respect of the wage bill for management grades. If you say average salary is £30K this amounts to approx 5% of salary, so on top of a pay award of 3.5% they have received well over the rate of inflation for doing what?
