personally i think pensions issue is too serious for us to bother about past differences with managers. it would be a massive blow to leighton and crozier if everybody stuck together on this one.
watch out. there may be a dom about

In that case if managers strike, they should arrange it that they strike when we are at work then you can refuse to work unsupervised, the only trouble with that on our shift only 2 managers are in their union.

From what I know, which isn't everything. That looks like a letter I've seen.

Yes, the Managers Union are balloting staff. Personally, I think the Managers will strike. This is something unprecedented within the business in my experience. It must mean that the worm is turning within the CMA.

Don't think of Managers as all being unquestioning tools of uber senior management. Don't think of managers as being the "THEM" in the Us And Them. Hitler (and here I am invoking Godwin's Law) had the adage of "Divide And Conquer". By dividing the business into opposing factions it is easier to rule and control all of us : to succeed in opposing the plans of Very Senior Management everyone needs to work together.

Also, please note that most managers in experience are practically forced to perform strike cover : the options they are given are either a) "I can cover" or b) "I am on leave". A lot of managers I know are unhappy about it but feel they have no choice and will be in some way penalised for refusing to provide strike cover. And they are probably right to think so.

Besides, I've been told ( someone on here must know for sure ) that if there are no managers on site Royal Mail is legally bound not to open the building, it may depend on the number who work there but I think the H&S rules mean a shutdown.
Yeh maybe but i think a few of us might just volunteer to do acting for a day :nana :nana :Applause

Managers today were spouting how good the new deal is. Apparently they had a pensions specialist in - charming isn't it - they get a flipping pensions specialist in and we get a briefing dictating what will happen. What a cheek. Our rep told us to tell our manager no one bar a pension specialist could give out pensions advise as any advice he may put forward that goes tits up could be held squarely at his feet lmao the manager shat it.

So I reckon they will not be out on strike.. they seem to have swallowed what ever was told to them.

Sorry mate, I can't agree with you. They are very much part of the 'them' in all of this. They are the face of those above them, and enthusiastically so. As such they are part of the problem. Crozier thanks them for supplying the information to stitch us up with flexible working, annualised hours etc. There is no way Crozier of Leighton would be able to come up with their 22 strings without the help of 'managers'. Just because they've suddenly found out that Crozier and Leighton intent to stitch up their pensions too doesn't make them our friends. Anyone who thinks we've suddenly gained an ally would do well to turn up on the picket line next week and watch those who cross it. They'll be CMA members and they'll be telling us they have a no strike' clause in their contracts, or it will be a case of "we're not in your union, so how can we be strike breakers?"

not ALL managers are THEM, if you know what I mean. I'm certainly not, and they made my life hell as a result.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Tommo,

read this again : "Also, please note that most managers in experience are practically forced to perform strike cover : the options they are given are either a) "I can cover" or b) "I am on leave". A lot of managers I know are unhappy about it but feel they have no choice and will be in some way penalised for refusing to provide strike cover. "

What some managers are being clearly told is CROSS THE PICKET 'VOLUNTARILY' OR FACE THE CONSEQUENCES. It's not just Blue and Red Shirts they bully, threaten, and intimidate. It's everyone. many managers are wise to this. Some aren't. I've used up an awful lot of leave since the strikes began. Not really a co-incidence, either. I've had 'consequences'. Why do you think I am Ex RM?

I've had fifteen different PEC's/DUM's since I started working for RM, and countless office boys. Since 1980, I've had one who I genuinely respected. He was a real manager, who knew how to sort out problems and knew how to handle people. He was ex-army and looked after the staff. If he were alive today, I don't know what he would make of the 'yes' men and incompetents we've got running our office these days. That's one man out of about fifty who reckon they're managers and who we've had the misfortune to have at our DO.
