DOM or Area Rep? Or both?

Above Area Rep is Divisional Rep.
Your Branch should give you his contact number.
But why isn't your Area Rep backing you?

Why then would it be necessary to set aside delivery routes for p/t staff?

Good point and one I'm going to have deal with soon :hmmmm

It may not be necessary but such an arrangement meant that when I applied for my present duty which was deemed a FT duty, I was made up from 30 PT reserve to a 40 FT fixed duty. It does give PT a route to FT if you can persuade RM to honour them.

The problem arises not from the fact that the duties are set aside for PT staff but that there is insufficient indoor work to accommodate a full time duty consequently the delivery remains the same but the indoor element changes and the delivery sans indoor work is therefore PT.

i understand that,,,theres less need for loads of bodies indoors,,,,BUT is the agreement from 2010 to allow part time staff with no seniority to get a pick of the walks over staff 10 years there senoir....no walks in our office are actual set aside as part time walks " all walks are the same length",,,but 25% of the duties will be picked by part time,,,even though none of this 25% part time staff have any kind of seniority

Well it's unclear if specific duties are being held for PT staff or a specific number of duties are being held for PT staff. Well what would you suggest? You cannot have full time staff using seniority to claim all the duties in the revision, what will happen is that PT staff will choose those duties identified as part time on PT seniority. It may be possible for staff to have buy down but some delivery duties will be strictly part time and make no mistake. It is immaterial what the seniority list is though of course all FT duties will be chosen on seniority. What is important is to get the indoor workload correct in terms of IPS, especially packet and parcel sorting, double prepping deliveries which will be for PT duties and others because if you don't get it right there is a problem in terms of being held over your time on IPS and PT duties not being prepped: also look out for elements of indoor work being hived off and added to a delivery duty which doesn't work particularly well - in particular business replies, missort sortation, redirection stickers and others.

Seriously its this simple (well in our DO at least this is happening).

If someone on a FULL TIME contract want a specific duty set that has been identified as a 'PART TIME' contract, then pick into that duty and drop the hours. I really do not see the problem, more senior people have the right to pick that duty structure before a less senior person picks into it. THATS HOW SENIORITY WORKS! People in our DO have dropped hours because they fancied a walk.

You might not like that part time dutys have been 'invented' but thats how Royal Mail is being run now. Blasting the fact that less senior people are getting walks before more senior people though is hokus. Seniority has been applied, you decided AGAINST dropping the hours and taking the walk. Please look for a better rationale, as you will not be convincing taking this route.

It seems that some people want their cake and to eat it as well.
Run, rabbit run. Dig that hole, forget the sun.
And when at last the work is done. Don't sit down, it's time to dig another one

A problem may arise of course if your FT/PT ratio hasn't been aligned over the last couple of years, a problem I would have thought that London faced - we had about 60/40 at the time of our revision and it is probably more like 55/45 now but with more staff - if the ratio is weighted in favour of FT and the indoor workload isn't there then that's a problem.

If all duties are equal outdoors then the duties should be picked on the basis of their outdoor aspect only and pure seniority should apply.
Management are then able to apply the correct indoor allocation to the correct duties based on the contracted hours of the duty holder.
It doesn't get much simpler or fairer than that.
Of course it means a little more work for management. :cuppa

mmm sounds like i knackered then,,,,ever since i started in this job the royal mail an the cwu have banged on about seniority to me,,,and ive missed loads of walks because i aint been senior enough,,,,,now when it matters most in my case,,,and i have the seniority the goal posts have channged.

i ve stood up in meetings and walked out when the meeting heads down the lines of,,,,"im ok im in the 75% full time pick,,,your unlucky" lads looking after theselves

i was hoping the 2010 agreement and the bit about repick was gunna be of use.....

now it seems i just gotta be thankful i have a job,,,even though i wont know what walk im on from day to day,,,,,but my day off will be a tuesday LOL

lucky i have the "working to me time" to help,,,till i get bullied or harressed over performance

in our revision a full timer could pick a part time duty or a hybrid and kick the part time or hybrid onto another duty, works well apart from all floating duties are part time 3 day weeks that can't be changed.

Its a pity throught this company that the management seemed to have divided and conquered,,,even down to areas in our office.

what seems to happen at 1 office doesnt happen at the next,,,,,yeah possibly cos offices have different areas and what will work in town office isnt much good in a rural office.

more likely in the case of our office management know they have a soft touch of a work force and just seem to try it on to get away with it.

i.e in writing,,,monthly meeting "lapsing to recommence 7th jan"
yesterday......were short staffed today...your lapsing.....a few grumbles and that was it
