Royal Mail Simulator - Training



Royal Mail is inviting CWU representatives to attend a 2 day training course called The Simulator that runs from 7am to 4pm on both days. The first day covers indoor issues and the second day covers outdoor.



The CWU have had no input into the content, design or roll out of the training course, which we are told is primarily targeted at managers. As a consequence the course is littered with management speak and managerial terms, and there is also no mention of the recently agreed joint training workshop for CWU Unit reps and DOM's.



In our opinion the first day could be made acceptable with some small alterations and amendments. We do however have some major concerns regarding the second day and believe that these sessions require significant alteration and amendment for the CWU to be able to support the simulator training. As an example Royal Mail has built into the workshop a session on 'flexing' that states if a delivery OPG finishes early on a Tuesday for instance, then they owe the business that time back. This has been positioned within the session and 'personal jotter' as time that can be claimed back the following week or even after that, as it is time that is 'owed' to the business. This of course is completely untrue and Royal Mail have been informed that this will need to be changed and brought in line with the national agreement on Pay and Modernisation if they want CWU support and the ongoing attendance of CWU reps at this training.



We believe that with CWU involvement and input the simulator could interlink with the agreed joint workshop for CWU Unit reps and DOMs and potentially enhance the overall learning experience for attendees, as long as the issues between us have been satisfactorily resolved. That being the case the CWU would support the attendance of CWU Reps on the Simulator training. However if the business are not prepared to make satisfactory alterations and amendments to the simulator training and bring everything back in line with National agreements and the agreed joint workshop for CWU Unit reps and DOMs then we will not be in a position to recommend the simulator training or advise our Reps to attend. Consequently a meeting has been arranged for Tuesday 20th November in York to see if a satisfactory resolution can be found. Branches will be updated accordingly following that meeting.

It will be quiet in March/April so you can't claim o/t in November/December.

The reps and Doms will be in the room together, pretending to do it together, but it won't be the real thing.

I've seen that on those late night tv channels...........which is why I don't watch Sky sports anymore

This is a common perception within Royal Mail management.
Rather than asking for a simulator to be altered wouldn't it be better to question where the source information came from,who in senior management sanctioned it and why their local managers are being fed this crap.
My DSM thinks this is the definition of Royal Mail's policy on "swings and roundabouts" despite being told to poke it up his hole on several occasions lately.

Well it's Tuesday the 20th today and I can pretty much guarantee it's a goer because this follows the same old pattern from the CWU - well we don't agree but if we make some concessions we will agree............we're never going to see any alterations it will be taken on trust again.

Further to LTB 853/12 issued on the 16th November 2012 the meeting referred to in that LTB took place in York on Tuesday 20th November 2012.



At that meeting Royal Mail accepted the CWU position and agreed that the necessary changes would be made to the Simulator Training to bring it in line with national agreements. It was also agreed that the Simulator Training would be repositioned in such a way as to be intrinsically linked to the Joint Workshop for CWU Unit Reps and DOMs.



This does of course mean there is now a piece of work to be done to introduce the changes into the Simulator Training and as things stand we expect this to be completed next week.



As a consequence we have asked Royal Mail to suspend this training until the work has been completed and we have something we can both support.



A further update will be circulated in due course.

In other words Royal Mail hasn't really agreed to change they've agreed to further fudging the issue.

Did they explain where the banking hours s**t actually came from or are we to believe that it was just something the Simulator Team made up on the spur of the moment to fill a 10 minute hole in the presentation?

It must have come from somewhere and that somewhere must have been pretty senior so for once Bob or Bobby ...can we have the full story please?
