Don't forget when doing it don't mention "Work to rule" to a DOM or Line Manager as they will class it was a Unofficial Industrial Action and will try all sorts to grind you down. When Managers are about its either "Working to your Time", "Withdrawal of Goodwill" or "Inability to complete"

Had a chap come to me this morning with a little problem, he was being pressured into completing his delivery it is far to big it is one of those pegasus ones . Well one of the DUM'S told him it is in the union rules if you have half hour to 45 mins to go you must complete the delivery wether you like it or not. Told him to tell the DUM get lost if you want to cut off you can , so he has cut off what a good postie but they are now really scraping the bottom of the barrell to make us stay out there .Also the DUM'S have said when 06:15 starts come in they will work through their meal relief and leave on time and it is sod the cut off's as they are not doing them. Oh how nice it is to be militant

The only time people will stop the tearing about is when for the first time, somebody finishes early, and is told that they can`t go home and have to do something else for no extra pay. That is a FACT. Untill that time it will not stop.You have to remember that the most senior postman are on the better walks and can finish the quickest. They are generally the worst culprits. In my office anyway.

I used to manage a depot and had the following situation:

It would be 10:30am with say for example 2 rounds not covered yet. I then see the first postie come back and is finishing for the day. As a manager (relatively new to it all) I couldn't understand why I was not allowed to ask this postie to take out some of the remaining work.

Is the postie employed for a set amount of hours? Or for a set amount of work? Or which ever comes quickest?

Please at that point in time the rounds were not necessarily even, though many of the people who finished early were in general younger and probably had a second job to go to.

My view on this did change at various times, and am wondering what people think about it

Fozzie the job years ago was done how the individual postman wanted to do it, mainly by not doing the job to Royal Mails book and rushing around, and generaly the office manager who was ususaly on his own because managers could manage people then, didnt mind as long as the walk was done and he didnt get any complaints off it, he was happy that was one less walk to worry about, time was the only perk we had, because we didnt get paid well, so why should someone who has done his duty i.e 2 full deliverys by rushing around and making time for himself be expected to do another one for nothing.

I attended the Fife strike meeting up in Kirkcaldy last night,when the area rep announced the start of the campaign to get folks to do the job properly.
Hope it gets through to some of the lunkheads in my office.
The mood of our meeting was sober, serious but determined the rep said that one of RM's area bods McCauley told our divisional rep off the record,that RM's aim is to destroy the union,to have the bare legal minimum union involvement in the workplace,the gloves are off,
Incidently the managers were all away to a briefing by the selfsame McCauley in Edinburgh regarding pensions,I spoke to 2 managers this afternoon,dont hold your breath waiting for them to go on strike,they will take any amount of crap as long as they dont have to work.
