The Future has arrived by post, and it’s full of junk
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/ ... -junk.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The person who runs Royal Mail was boasting yesterday that half the post her postmen deliver is now junk mail. She wants it to be even more.
This is like BT boasting that half the telephone calls you receive are recorded messages urging you to sue for mis-sold PPI. Or the railway companies boasting that half the passengers have to stand and that overcrowding will become even less bearable if their plans go right.
The Royal Mail under Moya Greene (who, they say, is paid half a million pounds a year) has launched a department called MarketReach, which encourages junk mail. You can tell that MarketReach is The Future because it does not bother with a space between the two words. In The Future, universal provision will mean that no Highland croft is too remote to avoid glossy pictures of exciting new pizza toppings.
In response, many householders put up a sign: No Junk Mail. I have always found this an intriguing indicator of character. It is – rather like calling your house Bethel, or indeed Chatsworth – a refusal to accept reality on its own terms. It can’t possibly have any beneficial effect. At best it reinforces moral outrage: “Another charity leaflet with a free ballpoint. Can’t they SEE it says No Junk Mail?”
My favourite local No Junk Mail sign is a hand-made job in the spirit of Blue Peter, with letters cut out of coloured paper and no doubt pasted on with Gloy. It hangs on a letter box above a wire carrier that fits four bottles of milk and has a dial to tell the milkman how many pints you’d like today, please. Yet I happen to know that no milkman calls in that street.
There are more genteel No Junk Mail signs. Some, in Fulham, are made of a material resembling hand-beaten brass with the words spelt out in shallow, blunt capitals. Sometimes the words are impressed on to the letter box itself, replacing that more obvious message, “Letters”. I do not think letter boxes say Letters in order to inform the postman where to thrust his little burden. It is more in the spirit of bath mats that say BATH or dog bowls that say DOG. This is a tendency deep in the human heart: to plumb the nature of things. It is a kind of poetry. Fire burns, ice freezes and Max eats from a bowl marked DOG.
What Ms Greene is doing is rather the opposite. She is making the dog share its bowl with the cat. It is against nature. We know what post is: a welcome little sheaf of envelopes splayed on the mat like a hand of cards. It is welcome because it comes from people we know. The brown envelopes with threats from HM Revenue and Customs or TV Licensing are doubly horrible because the demand for money, under the pretence of civil communication, comes from strangers.
Ms Green’s MarketReach promotes this trespass. It is like a stranger coming up to you in the pub and asking if you are happy with your car insurance. You can’t exactly say that it is illegal, but it is an insult.

Moya wants us to deliver more Junkmail
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/8558079.stm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
how much more ?
We are delivering 6 items at the moment
This week we had a County newsletter, 3 more A4 christmas flyers and 2 bulky envelopes .
We could only get 8 houses or flats per bundle . With some loops about 150 calls it is starting to get a bit rediculous.
It might pay soon to do the bulk of the d2d's on mondays and tuesdays and work to your time with 2 or 3 bags per loop , at least it will stop the unscrupulous DOM's from trying to bank hours.

The audacity of the woman!

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Well she needs to earn her £500,000 a year, plus bonuses. She was meant to come to our DO for a chat with staff but obviously couldn't be arsed. Too busy sorting out the f***ing junk mail contracts bitch.

Don't like them, but it need to be already prepared for delivery as we haven't got time to sort it out with our tight working hours.

Re: Moya wants us to deliver more Junkmail
Been informed that Swings and Roundabouts have now been put on the back burner and that all managers have been informed that they must manage on the basis of resourcing needs, and that they are being put on courses to train them to do this. Therefore clawback or banking whatever you want to call it is a thing of the past. I wait in trepidation.
