Re: LTB 829/12 Local Representatives' Forums - November 2012
To be fair the bulk of this forum was driven by the Local Reps relaying the position of their offices and asking questions of the national officers.
There was no pre set agenda or interference from Branch or Division,no loaded questions and everyone was welcome to step up and make their point.
There was plenty said and not a lot left unsaid and i would hope the other 9 forums are just the same.If you want your rep to raise a particular issue now is the ideal time to tell them so.
By the end of them the national officers should be in no doubt what the real issues facing members are.
This is exactly what Local Reps have asked for and needed for a long time and the plan is to continue these forums which can only be a good thing for membership engagement.

As a local Rep I have to be optimistic about our power to influence change or I would be wasting my time. I would rather focus my wrath on the Company. The Leadership will have been influenced by what they heard from us today, but actions speak louder than words.

One meeting,and you're hoodwinked.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

That's hardly fair comment.POSTMAN wrote:One meeting,and you're hoodwinked.
No-one is hoodwinked,my issues with the union and HQ are exactly the same as they always were.
Too slow to react to members.
Too quick to believe Royal Mail.
To much self interest.
Too much internal politics.
Too willing to deal first and think later.
Too much saying the same thing over and over.
Way too many hangers on.
I felt the Local Reps Forum went well that's all.
I felt that the issues we are facing were well laid out.
I agreed with some of the proposals to deal with them, but not all.
I was especially impressed with the way local reps were prepared, after a nervous start to get up and tell the truth and i was relatively satisfied with most of the answers given but not all.
It was a start that's all and i hope by the end of the forums we might have moved forward a tiny little bit on membership engagement which would be a huge improvement on the constant backwards movement of the last 3 years.

i didn't know anything about the meeting till Tamsky asked me if i was going (the night before the meeting) .... their was no chance of going as my office is struggling to cover duties as it is ... 3 full time, 1 part time and a saturday shift vacancies haven't been replaced and we (Prestwick) are just a small town delivery office of just over 20 stafffishtank wrote:All managers received an Ops Flash/Comm/email thingy about it last week.mandelsons_toenail wrote:So how do I get release
Your manager is already aware of it and the decision to release you is not his/hers to make.
You tell them you're going is all.
Any problems contact your branch.

So much for Branch involving the unit rep. The whole organisation needs a shake up.Godric wrote:i didn't know anything about the meeting till Tamsky asked me if i was going (the night before the meeting) .... their was no chance of going as my office is struggling to cover duties as it is ...

Do we need branches now?
Here's a thought, all those full time release boys nervously looking at their feet as the reps go hell for leather, isn't it 'their' jobs to report up what is going on on the shop floor?

Re: LTB 829/12 Local Representatives' Forums - November 2012
Will these meetings change policy?
Anyone who looks at other unions' websites can see how uninformative ours is. We have no reps guide and no information about our rights that ordinary members can easily access.
At the moment, it looks like our union does not want Local Reps to organise. With these meetings, the Officers are talking to Local Reps before the Local Reps can get organised and make any demands as a group.
Local Reps should demand yearly grade conferences so that motions on pay etc. can be passed and the NEC can be instructed to do what the members want.
If the Officers are asking for Local Reps to get 'stuck in', let's see what support they will give. Putting in a tribunal claim when a disagreement is passed on to the Area Rep will get them moving.
