Who documents what leave you have asked for and who agreed you could take it? Recipe for disaster.
When you book the leave you get a printout which is signed by the manager.

In simple terms your office leave spread/allocation should have been planned with your local cwu rep and your agreement. The link below should take you to the agreement?

Has anyone ever worked for a company that chooses your holidays for you and then makes it almost impossible to change them then when you realise you havnt taken all your leave trys to convince
you that you have had all your leave and if you dont moan about it you lose out .. These kinds of working practices are of a different era, all comp days should be automatically credited but RM seem to use part excell spreadsheat that all looks very flashbut part back of a fag packet when it suit.Modernisation my foot.

The sensible thing to do would be joining the union's (CWU) Nation Executive Committee.

Because, as Mr William Hayes (General Secretary) has just done, you can arbitrarily decide to claim for unused annual leave going back to the year 2000 and take £29,560 from the union coffers.

You are in the wrong job, if you wish to enjoy such annual leave benefits stop being a hard working postie and become a member of the Hayes "inner circle"

That's illegal, surely? If you enter a financial agreement knowing that you may not be able to fulfil your part of the bargain, that's got to be either a) obtaining money under false pretences b) fraud or c) breach of contract. Must be.

Too much effort for managers, they'd have to sit down and think about rearranging stuff instead of drinking coffee......

Could be worse.
Wanted this week off as its half term and I m having to shell out £40 a day for child care whilst I work ( no don't think because I m a parent I have anymore right to the week than anyone else. After all Holiday is just pay in a different form and we are all equal)

Tried to book it back way before October last year and told the week was fully Booked/ not available. Fair Enough.

Come in today and find 2 blokes who have got the week off booked as Annual leave Working! and being paid OT ( Not even a day in Lieu ) surely this is illegal??????

A lot of modern well managed companies have a computer with a resource management program that allows staff to apply for leave when they want it and the computer can instantly make the decision as it has the data input for how many staff are required and what is booked. No need to speak to a manager, click on the mouse apply for the leave- boom granted in seconds or not as the case may be. No scope for incompetent managers to ignore applications because they can't work it out, are too busy prepping frames to bother, "don't know how many people will be sick nearer the time" or "we will see the week before depending on how often you cut or refuse overtime"
Royal Mails leave system must have been drawn up in Victorian times. Oh yeah and when you go on leave they pay you the average of your last 14 weeks pay including any overtime, commission or allowances you normally get.NOT!!!
Is there anyone out there who can work out why people keep leaving after a few months???

Magic, this is outrageous in my opinion, poor management and if those guys are still on leave and working at the same time - words fail me......immoral
and bordering on illegal, what would happen if they had an accident at work while on leave????

Challenged the DOM ! Says they came in for a day the wanted back later ( still not right ) and Contradictory to what the Booking Clerk told me on the QT.

I read in a previous reply about taking single days off if they are available. I'm going away for a weekend starting on a Friday and work a Saturday. I don't want to book a full week off as I only need the 2 days. Can you book 2 days in a row or would management restrict you to one day?
