In our office. You recieve the full shift for working your day off 8.20. Only exception to this rule are Tuesdays and Saturdays. Saturday you are offered the "ful-shift" of 6.40 (5-30-12.10). Tuesdays you are normally only offered the derogatory 4.30. (as it's a Tuesday) and nobody as a rule takes them up on this.
In reply to moving the floater. As a rule with my floater. He goes to what we call "The Borg" (So called as the managers spend half their lives looking at it, possibly for inspiration!) Or as others may know it as The Available Duties Board, and picks a duty that he fancies doing rather than the guy who wishes to come in on overtime. If he doesn't fancy any, he informs the guy he does not wish to move, and the guy who wishes to come in either takes his day-off or covers as reserve picking one of the available duties. In our office on a dailly basis, that normally goes into double figures.
In my case, the floater pleads with me to come in nearly every week as he detests my duty! :funneh

The floater should be able to come in and work there day off on you're job as well ,a fair way of doing things. To me if you work ure day off on you're floaters signed for duty and he gets moved to any job at all then you're to me as bad as ,,the word associated with strikes ,,,,,,,

I never ask him to move. Never have done and never will do. As you say it is contained in his duty structure. He is the one who chooses to jump duties to deliberately avoid mine.
Take today for example. It is my rostered day off, and my floater is on holiday. His floating duty is vacant due to our high number of unfilled vacancies, normally prompting the management to ask those contained in the duty to work their days off.
All except me were asked to work their days off. I was left out as my day off was a Tuesday. Yet it took NINE guys to absorb today.
