Re: Letter To Members
The issues spoken of in the letter have been flagged up since day one, and yet we are still expected to believe that HQ will convince the con-dems and RM to change course mid- to late-term .. I don't think so! At least not without the very real threat of industrial action placed on the table during these ''summit talks''. Everyone accepts that change was inevitable, but that change has been poorly managed by HQ from the beginning. They have been 'reactive' rather than 'pro-active' towards discussions/forums/joint statements with RM. And it has been frontline staff at DOs, MCs etc that have borne the brunt of HQs failings.
Workplace Issues - Revision activity of all shapes and sizes should stop (and not just for the Christmas period) until RM come back to the table, recognize that they need to be more realistic in how they approach revisions, re-visit revisions that have clearly not worked since their implementation. CWU need to make it perfectly clear to RM that any attempt at bullying and intimidating staff to comply with Revisions by management is not acceptable and joint CWU Area Reps/DSMs investigations to take place where it is suspected.
Privatization - I am all for giving RM/con-dems a fight on privatization, but I am not stupid enough to think that they are going to listen a great deal to what the CWU say on the subject, however good the alternative might be.
End to End Competition - also, it is a bit late in the day to expect any sort of 'u-turn' on competition. Too much time and money has been invested in ensuring RM was crippled by unfair regulation - coupled with the arrogance of Crozier etc in believing that RM was in any shape to withstand the onslaught on our most profitable work - to allow RM to play a full and unbridled part in the postal market.
I am happy to fight for every job, every term and condition that we currently enjoy but I do expect some leadership too from those on high to pave the way forward. Sadly, nothing in the letter gives me confidence that will be the case.
Hopefully, someone here will give me cause for optismism.

Re: Letter To Members
So, what is this "consultive ballot" mentioned in the PDF letter from the link?
It's extremely late in the day but with the government wanting the company in shape for privitisation, a mid-March strike for once could actually concentrate their minds.
[Edit: And don't laugh, but if we play for time until 2015, when a Labour government comes in, we could stop the whole train altogether.]

Do you really think people would go out on strike?
Our union have sold us down the river and left the local reps to sort out the s**t.
Instead of strikes we all need to work to rule, and watch the back log that brings.

Eh... maybe. If sold correctly. But for a union of communications workers, our leaders aren't all that great about, you know, actually communicating.

We've been on strike too many times, got a deal as recommended by the union voted it in and royal mail then ignore it, how many more times are we going to repeat this?britwrit wrote:egor110 wrote:Do you really think people would go out on strike?

I just hope our union realises the business is changing as is the whole world and to be part of it we have to change as well. By all means have talks with rm about how these changes are implemented but don't ignore them.

Re: Letter To Members
Hindsight is a wonderful thing - we would still be in the same position without the agreement? - then why the roadshow, 2 and some odd years ago to ensure it was voted in and as for protecting members - keerist things have never been so bad...........I'm afraid I have to say that the CWU has made a monumental mistake and it's just a tad too late to admit it. Where on earth was the pearls of wisdom in 2009 and 2010 like - "we have doubts, regardless of the agreement we will be in the s**t, rather than protect the membership we thought we'd see how it runs and wing it when it goes tits up".

I didn't say that DV.dvbuk55 wrote:Hindsight is a wonderful thing - we would still be in the same position without the agreement?
I said we would be facing the same challenges,i think where HQ went wrong is thinking that we would be in the same position.
Being up to your neck in s**t and being up to your neck in s**t with a ladder(the support of the membership) is not the same position even if the volume of s**t is the same.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Re: Letter To Members
I don't quite honestly see the distinction, the same challenges is the same position with or without the agreement. It was the fact that the agreement was embraced by the leadership without any idea of what the outcome would be, without any clear plan of how the agreement would impact on the membership and particularly deliveries, without any method of policing it and clearly with so many revisions going wrong, regulating the change. To my mind it is too little too late. It would be interesting to see exactly what has prompted the CWU in suddenly taking an interest in the membership and what they have to say - is it that they suddenly feel under threat?fishtank wrote:I didn't say that DV.dvbuk55 wrote:Hindsight is a wonderful thing - we would still be in the same position without the agreement?
