A business has a legal responsability to TRY and provide reasonable adjustments for someone with a disability.

If for instance you were a bus driver and you lost your eyesight, then you would lose your job as a bus driver.
The business could look at providing you with a different role in the company but if there was nothing you were able or trained to do then.............

The problem in RM is the level of physical fitness required has increased year on year and while someone with a walking disability might manage a couple of hours on delivery, they can no longer manage 4 hours+.
The reasonable adjustment is a smaller delivery.
Half the workload for the same pay and someone was wondering why they had no mates?
Well my managers have been getting away with it so .....who gives a s**t. :cuppa
Royal Mail managers.....about as popular as a t.urd in a swimming pool!
The DDA/Equality Act demands action,NOT words......adjustments NOT Occupational Health referrals.Case No:2505901/09
Royal Mail is an Equal Opportunities Employer..It discriminates against everybody.

Half the outdoor workload and a disability for the same pay.

If anyone thinks needing reasonable adjustments because of a disability is some sort of skive, they need to actually live with a disability or take a look at their priorities in life.
Does anyone really think people go:
Oh good. I've been diagnosed with cancer. I can get on that Equality Act skive at work now?
Does it include a reduction in pay commensurate with the reduction of the outdoor workload or not? Perhaps the considerations should also consider a shorter working week which I'm sure would help.

Sorry mate but you are either on a wind up and if so its in poor taste in my opinion. Or if not then I am saddened that your Union values don't transfer to other less able people.

Yes there is a limit, not in numbers but in the use of the word reasonable. Its not the members fault if they need DDA protection, but it is the managers fault if they don't find a reasonable adjustment, and don't forget reasonable not just for the person, but also for the business as well.

What is weird though is that your position as posted sounds very similar to what you pick up on Dingo's posts - Winners and Losers. :hmmmm

:hmmmm Who are the winners and who the losers? I mentioned once before that the proliferation of DDA cases has been commensurate with the advent of the revisions - though one thing was a constant through these posts. I have lost count of the number of "DDA" cases that have now surfaced in the last two years. If outdoor work cannot be carried out then surely a reasonable solution would be indoor work at a MC.

Yep thats a reasonable solution in some, if not most circumstances but if that isn't offered by managers why is it the fault of the person suffering under a DDA condition.

Your quoted posted seems to put the blame on the sufferer rather than management. Hopefully that was not your intention.

I agree there is a malaise of DDA in Royal Mail at the moment, but that is caused by poor management and intolerance of some staff. Both need to be tackled and sorted.

If you know of a MC with full-time vacancies then please share.
Back in the day that is exactly what happened with people unable to complete a duty.
Now witht the MC rationalisation programme it is rarely an option for f/t staff.

My point mother is that an MC has room for manouevre whereas a delivery office has not a lot of spare capacity.

I agree it does. My intention is not to cast doubt on a persons right to DDA but the fact that RM and the CWU have created the circumstances whereby people feel it is necessary to have a DDA in order for them to carry on working. I have stated previously that when a delivery was 3.5 most people could complete but when the delivery span became an "enabler" then it became more and more difficult for some people to continue. There has to be a line drawn in the sand for everyones best interests.

I do not have 'half the workload' dvbuk55.

What was taken off the delivery was replaced by other work. I do not care that I have few friends at work. I would rather have friends who understand than those who think it would be better for me to just give up and start claiming benefits from the state, for a condition which only needs a little consideration.

A delivery office is precisely that - its raison detre, if a delivery is shortened then someone else will be picking up the slack.

and if Royal Mail didn't want everyone to be working at 100BSI then there would be slack. Again I think you are blaming the sufferer for a situation that is caused by poor managers, poor policy and poor education of the rights/obligations of employees and employers.
