A petition to save the Royal Mail parcel services in Tottenham has been launched by Liberal Democrat councillors.

The Royal Mail office at the Arena shopping centre has been selected for closure and provides a parcel-collecting service to residents in N4 and N15.

Royal Mail plan to move the services to an industrial estate near Tufnell Park, leaving residents to travel further to collected undelivered parcels.

Several other Royal Mail offices in the borough will also be closed, with 25,293 addresses affected by the changes.

Cllr David Schmitz, Lib Dem councillor for Harringay ward, said: “The residents of the Harringay Ladder and South Tottenham won’t put up with having to take several buses to an industrial estate near Tufnell Park to collect their undelivered parcels and registered post.

“If the post office doesn’t provide more convenient collection points, it will lose its customers and miss out on the opportunities which increased internet shopping should be bringing.

Residents can sign the petition online: http://campaigns.libdems.org.uk/parcelgreenlanes" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

A quote from a Kevin Maguire article

Lib Dems are keener than even the Cons on flogging off a service dating back 500 years to the reign of Henry VIII.

Well Lib Dems you made your bed, so f***ing lay in it.
