Re: bloody stupid saturdays !!!!
There is no need for Saturdays to be any longer, any harder, or just as stressful, as most weekdays are for us all.
The reason our Saturdays are now the nightmare end, to a nightmare week, every week, is purely as a result of the spite and malice of senior management, who could not have made their utter contempt for us more clear, than by ruining utterly the weekend for so many of us, and they relish their spiteful, malicious victory over us.
Nobody wants post delivered late on a Saturday....Not customers.......Certainly not us.....Only the very people , who themselves , would never ever for a single nano second, get out of their beds for work on a Saturday......Our slimy, snidish, utterly incompetent, buffoons in senior management.
It will be to the CWU's eternal shame, that something that could never be totally justified, the deliberate screwing-up of our weekends, was never seriously challenged by a body, that even if it cannot improve it's members conditions, could at the very least, protect the few good ones left.

Our duty time as Rurals is 06:30 to 14:30, on a Saturday ,of which yesterday I left the office at 08:59 with mail and two 9 o' clock special deliveries (yeah, now I have a time machine, not!) ,had no break and had to be back at the office for 14:00 when the lorry leaves.

Re: bloody stupid saturdays !!!!
for the time being im lucky enough still to be unchanged on a saturday,,,revision postponed till after xmas,,,,,ive never understood the ideas of longer saturdays,,,except come to the conclusion that somebody up in management has it in for us.
we deliver as normal saturdays,,,,i dont see any courier firms out on saturdays except the 1`s that charge a premium to deliver on a saturday.
ive order a parcel and the company guaranteed a saturday delivery.....so i thought it would be sent via our special delivery,,,,but on getting confirmation it was sent via yodel,,,,,so i watched the tracking saturday morn,,,,,very skeptical of it turning up,,,the tracking kept updating and saying out for delivery......then after dinner it changed to parcel not scanned in depot....LOL yeah parcel never arrived.

Re: bloody stupid saturdays !!!!
A Saturday delivery should be a premium price service, we have been told that we should not push for a five day week as this would bring about job losses ie floats , but the job losses have come anyway so what can we lose.
The Saturday duties could work in the reverse of the one in six with people only working one in six Saturdays covering Specials ,packets and callers.
As I understand in the license agreement Royal Mail states that they will provide a full Saturday service but it is not part of the USO , is that correct ?.

Re: bloody stupid saturdays !!!!
I dont mind working Saturday as i knew i would have to when i took the job.
BUT they seem intent on turning it into the worst day of the week!
Recently they put in Saturday absorption into our office but gave us the deal that if we agreed to it they would release us 30mins early to make up for it,surprise surprise now the last MC lorry turns up late every week so you have no chance of getting out the promised 30mins early, but of course the promise of a 30min early departure means half the office now come in early themselves, meaning when the late truck turns up they have time to go back on the sorting and thus get out at the OLD time but have to take the absorption as well.
IF they were to start on time they would not have time to do this and would have to cut off every week thus getting rid of Saturday absorption but do they listen??
i give up.
Sorry about the rant....i am not a rep or anything so have to be a bit carefull..

Re: bloody stupid saturdays !!!!
RM know the vast majority of us want to finish earlier saturdays and that by f**king us off in this way will lead to FT postman voluntarily leaving the job, thus enabling them to employ much cheaper PT staff. They cant lose, unfortunately.
Any married man should forget his mistakes. There's no use in two people remembering the same thing.

Re: bloody stupid saturdays !!!!
But how many full-time postal workers quit because management are f***ing-up what little social lives we have left at the weekends?dubdaz wrote:RM know the vast majority of us want to finish earlier saturdays and that by f**king us off in this way will lead to FT postman voluntarily leaving the job, thus enabling them to employ much cheaper PT staff. There are so few jobs out there these days, my guess would be not many, if any, postal workers would quit their dead-end job.
We should stop trying to excuse the inexcusable, and demand that the CWU takes steps to improve our conditions.
Meanwhile, the Royal Mail is losing. It's losing it's dedicated workforce, because even if they're not quitting their dead-end jobs, their dedication gets seriously wilted, the trust and confidence of the public, and the very good name that had been built up over three hundred years by people with more business sense, perception of what a service to the public really means, in their little fingers.
If I had a Whelk stall on Southend pier, and RM management came anywhere near it, I would take a great big gun to them, and blast the useless bastards to kingdom come, before they wrecked my little business.

Re: bloody stupid saturdays !!!!
loved the posts on how saturdays used to be when i started could be out delivering by 7 and finished by 9.30ish plenty of time to go home get some breakfast, have shower, meet mates at pub and then off to watch my team get beat at the footie again
, now the nightmare that is p@l has come in we start at 7 and finish at 2.30ish that just leaves me enough time if im lucky to get to the footie still in uniform probably stinking lol great how much better the job is now! Agree with coments that royal mail just hate the fact we might have finished early on a saturday, nevermind cant wait till winter weather hits our office will collape under weight of mail/packets and snow stopping us use our vans plenty of loops failed then what a shame
