LTB 829/12 Local Representatives' Forums - November 2012
To: All Branches with Postal Members
Dear Colleague
LOCAL REPRESENTATIVES’ FORUMS – NOVEMBER 2012
As part of the arrangements for Area Reps attending the Managerial Forum in Birmingham earlier this year, the Union reached an agreement with the Royal Mail Group to hold Local Reps Forums from time to time.
The purpose of this LTB is to advise Branches that the Union will be embarking on a series of Local Reps Forum meetings across the UK, commencing from Monday 12th November.
Please find attached to this LTB a full schedule of these meetings, which explains that they are taking place in each Royal Mail Divisional area. We have also attached a standard invite letter for the local representatives in your Branch; the invite is also appropriate to local Parcelforce Depot Representatives. The invite letter also covers the agenda, which is similar to next week’s National Briefing.
It is essential that Branches forward these letters to your local representatives immediately. We have agreed with Royal Mail that normal release arrangements will apply for these meetings. Any travel or subsistence costs will be proper to CWU Branches.
Any enquires on the above LTB should be addressed to Lionel Sampson Senior Policy Advisor DGS (P) Dept.
Yours sincerely
Dave Ward
Deputy General Secretary (P)

Re: LTB 829/12 Local Representatives' Forums - November 2012
Unit reps feel isolated. If they pass on issues to their Area Reps, nothing happens. Members are forced to use the Grievance Procedure for collective issues.
Why has there been very little support for local reps?
Is it a coincidence that this has happened during privatisation or has it been planned?
Other unions have unit rep guides on their websites but we don't. Why not?
http://www.rmt-vulnerable-workers.org.u ... ng-members" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.unison.org.uk/acrobat/16450.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Some members on this site want to stage a coup. We don't want one set of people who think they are more important than ordinary members to be deposed and replaced by a different set of people who think they are more important than ordinary members. We need a revolution that changes the Union.
If anyone has any proper proof of corruption and/or collusion with union busting consultancies, please come forward. If anyone knows the name of these consultancies, please post the details on here.

What exactly counts as a local rep,is it just ir? Or does this briefing include invitation for h+s reps,branch political reps,youth reps,ulrs,women's reps or equal ops reps etc?

Re: LTB 829/12 Local Representatives' Forums - November 2012
Womens officer, youth officer, equality officer, ulr, political officer etc are all branch officials, therefore they are not within the scope of the meeting (other than to be 'party leader' on behalf of the branch, but it is more likely that the branch secretary would take that role)cheshirecheese wrote:What exactly counts as a local rep,is it just ir? Local H+S reps, no reason why not, but it would depend on the branches decision on delegation makeup (e.g. 1 rep per office), and there will probably be a slant towards IR, with a cursory glance at the agenda.

I have'nt heard anything from my branch yet regarding attending. So it may not be all IR Reps.
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

I'm not sure that I understand the thought process behind this. First there is the full time release guys having their "team" talk, followed by letters to members, as I undertand it, then the unit/local reps forums staggered over, what 3 weeks..................what exactly is so different that it cannot be communicated to everyone great or small at the same time.

I think to a certain extent the Local Reps Forums were a long term aim entirely separate from the national briefing but in this case the agenda has been hijacked for want of a better word by the national issues.dvbuk55 wrote:what exactly is so different that it cannot be communicated to everyone great or small at the same time.
I would prefer it the other way around with the local reps instructed to hold members meetings,bring that feedback to a Local Reps Forum and the members thoughts and aspirations delivered to national officers to digest.
If we are to swallow the myth that this is a "bottom up" federal union that's how it should work in theory however i am prepared to accept the fact that on this occasion information has to be passed downwards.
Like you though i would prefer it to be done much quicker and with much more transparency than is the case.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Is this the precursor to a stab in the back Virgin style I wonder or a total sell out of its members by the CWU to continue to be sat at the table.......I would like to say I'm glad to be at the age I am...........but one should never wish time away, nevertheless there are troubled times ahead and IMHO things are as bad as I've ever seen them.

Re: LTB 829/12 Local Representatives' Forums - November 2012
That is my concern, ft, that what is a dire situation for deliveries is being overtaken by what may be considered wider issues by the glitterati and the so called "forum" is nothing more than a rallying of support for them in whatever they and RM may have in mind for what they consider is the future path.fishtank wrote:I think to a certain extent the Local Reps Forums were a long term aim entirely separate from the national briefing but in this case the agenda has been hijacked for want of a better word by the national issues.
