Postman left Narborough couple's parcel in recycling bin - which was then emptied

A man is demanding an apology from Royal Mail after a postman left his parcel in a bin, which was then emptied.

Roger Hunt and his wife Lesley returned from a night away to discover a note from their postman to say he had left a package in their recycling bin.

But the package was nowhere to be found because the bins had been emptied just hours earlier.

Roger, 62, from Narborough, said: "What a ridiculous place to leave a parcel – I mean, what did the postman think was going to happen?

"Tuesday is bin day and our neighbours start putting their bins out from the day before, so surely he would have seen that.

"It turns out the package was not something of great financial value, but that is not the point. It is the principle of it.

"I think even a 10 year old would know it is not a great idea to leave a package in a bin – on bin day of all days."

The parcel was a £9.62 Lego set bought as a Christmas gift for the couple's eight-year-old nephew from Amazon, delivered on either October 15 or 16.

When Mr Hunt complained to Royal Mail and asked for a refund, the company sent him an e-mail which said he should ask the sender for a replacement.

He told them he was not satisfied with their attitude and response, and more than a week later is yet to receive a second response.

"The most frustrating thing, to be honest, was the fact they just said that the sender should send me a replacement," he said.

"Why should Amazon have to pay for the Royal Mail's mistake? Amazon has exceptional customer service. I feel as though Royal Mail are fobbing me off. I would like an apology from Royal Mail.

"It might only have been a £10 item, but it could have been something else.

"It could have been something that could not be replaced, such as a family keepsake.

"They should have left it with a neighbour, or taken it to the post office at Meridian Park. I would rather drive to pick up my parcels, than have them sent to the rubbish tip."

The item has since been replaced by Amazon.

Nobody (Is our Sal on holiday?) from Royal Mail was available to comment yesterday.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

At some point RM are going to take a hard line over this.
Packets increasing, number of times it happens increasing, complaints increasing, bad publicity increasing...it's pretty inevitable that people will be losing their jobs over it.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Not surprised at this, as the shower of management at Swan House have no customer service tact, and I say that politely :arrrghhh
