Getting a job reference from RM?

I used to be an OPG at Oxford MC, until redundancy when it was closed down in 2009.

How do I get both STANDARD job references, and specific CHARACTER references from Royal Mail?
Are you allowed to contact managers DIRECTLY for a character reference?

I believe RM have a policy of giving no references to former employees.

Royal Mail only give out a name,rank and serial number type of reference...this will be handled by HR.
This is because they can be sued for giving out inaccurate information.
Any other "Management" reference would have to be unofficial and to be honest,i don't think any sensible manager would get involved unless you were on very close terms with them.

Does anyone know if they include details of who terminated the employment? For instance if i quit would they give that information out in the reference or just length of service?

Name
Place of Work/Unit

Employed From/To
Reason for Leaving (resigned or dismissed etc.)

Also would they employ you again and if not why. Just had my firm that's been asked by another firm asking for a ref from rm andhave had rm send me the authorisation for the ref.

When you leave RM they send a leaving pack to you a few weeks later with all the info.

I can tell you now they do include reason for leaving. It is your choice however if you want the Reference released by RM.

I spoke to HR on Tuesday morning and he told me they only give out date started, date finished, role in the company and whether you were permanent or casual. I asked him outright if they gave the reason for leaving and he said no, they do not.

We have given you the actual answer many times but its not what you want to hear I guess.

By now you should have your leavers pack, within this it will contain your RM reference........... does it? That reference will be the same if an employer writes to RM
