Steve Cameron's letter

Post by Martin Walsh »

Some of you may be aware that London , Anglia and the South East Divisions have withdrawn from revision activity over a range of issues including the 100bsi , later starts ie 0700 , Pre determind delivery spans , lapsing of CSS sequencing etc.

There was a stormy shadow ops executive meetin last week with Peter Harwood from ACAS , Mark Higson , Mike Newby , Steve Cameron , Rob Jenson , Tony Fox , Gerry O'Rourke and the lead financial people along with Dave , Bob , Ray and Terry?

The meeting got so heated that Steve Cameron stormed out at one point as he was getting a lot of stick.

Following the meeting Steve Cameron wrote the following letter to Bob Gibson

Dear Bob

Following our strategic involvement meeting at the shadow ops exec , I said I would write and clarify several issues and confirm their application in the South East.

Can I first assure you that we are fully committed to the full terms of the BT2010 and that:

1 Office start times continue to be modelled to meet the work plan and will be an output of the modelling of duty builder with no Pre determined start times.

2. There will continue to be local discussions and negotiation on indoor performance improvement and duty structures, the output of the agreed performance levels will form the basis of the duty structures with no Pre determind levels of improvement or BSI improvement.

3. Delivery spans are optimised and modelled as an out put from duty builder with no Pre set duty span length.

It would be really helpful if you could confirm in writing your personnel support to unlock any areas where we have no cooperation.

Yours sincerely

Steve

So by standing together you can get movement. At the moment we still don't think he has moved enough including on the lapsing of sequencing and are still not co operating with revisions.

On past form, RM will say anything that you want to hear.....then do as they wish anyway,

leaving the CWU behind the curve.

Time to lead from the FRONT if you want to take the members with you.

so dingo will all this apply to scotland as well
as we have had later starts forced upon us with cwu backing
longer deliv spans with cwu backing
over 100% bsi forced and expected from us with cwu backing
forced on us by backing from div reps up here
so where do we stand do we renegotiate and get same terms as south east
or are we to be left on our own

Four or five offices are getting merged into one at southend, the revisions are supposed to be happening before these offices merge.

Why are these offices about to go through their revisions if the South East divisions are meant too have withdrawn from revision activities?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Steve Cameron is not a new kid on the block and he's not as stupid as he looks.

What that letter is...is a re-affirmation of the already agreed terms of reference for delivery revisions....which his managers have already allegedly ignored.

The problem is in Mr Cameron's mind they haven't.
Mr Cameron's take on any agreement is unique to Mr Cameron,he will see it his way and actually be quite surprised that anyone else will see it differently.
So as far as he's concerned it will be business as usual.

We've had our BSI set by local agreement. I met a DOM from another area the other day and I nearly passed out when he told me his office BSI '65'

Fish the fact is that he has had to write to it on the basis of no revision activity. If the managers choose to continue t ignore the national agreement there will not be any more revisons.

It's pretty simple for us , either he adheres to the agreement or he gets no revisons.

Hans whilst it is addressed as the South East , there is only one national agreement and what Steve Cameron has written applies to everywhere. Of course Fish is right Managment will try and stitch offices up where they can it is down to them and the area reps to say no.

Ours has been set at 100%, no discussions, no arguments, it's just 100% and we've to deal with it.

100% this year.
Moving to 109 next year.

They'll pick on the weakest. Unagreed performance tests followed by threats of conduct.
People will start coming in early to prep their D2D. They'll skip their meal relief. They won't claim if they go over.
They'll do everything possible to avoid drawing attention to themselves.
The managers will pat themselves on the back (and trouser a bonus) and then next year they'll raise the bar, cut the fat etc etc because you will have to maintain that (fictitious) standard next year after another 6% drop in traffic.

Still I'm sure one of our Divi Reps will pop over and back you up. :cuppa :cuppa

It's a crazy, mixed up company that takes it's most "efficient" offices and screws them into the ground while encouraging the poorest performing to kick back and take it easy.
It's an even crazier union that believes it's acceptable for some offices to have to make savings based on working at 109BSI while others are left alone at 65BSI.
If it's a journey some are running world record pace while others are out for a stroll in the sun which would be fine but the prize money is the same for first or last.
How long can the disparity of performance amongst delivery offices last?

An exposure of this 100 BSI by the CWU may be a way to bring more information to everyone. Where is the industrial engineer research paper to measure the 100 BSI workrate. Surely the CWU can get hold of this. Why would the CWU allow people in different offices to work at different speeds. Isnt their usual policy to have everyone treated the same (pay, breaks, holidays). Why do Royal Mail allow local managers to have so much of a say about what happens in their area. Surely such wide differences make everything more complicated resulting in greater inefficiency. Wouldnt standardisation cost less.
