23 years near 24 come the end of October!yes the job has changed and many things have flowed under the bridge!i think some of the main problems are to do with the tardy managers that the firm insist on employing most of them you would not allow to go deliver the mail let alone run the office, most are only where they are because they happen to be in the right place at the right time if they went outside for a job most of them would not get one.
The other things that strike me as a little strange is that we don't get training as such now what they laughing call training is being sent out with someone who has been in the job 5 minutes and is more concerned with getting home and using their lamb to the slaughter as a means to do that and while i know that is a generalization and maybe a little unfair they are the ones who doorstep and run the streets cut corners leave vans with doors open engines running then bleat when they get caught!
The thing i think that some of the long term staff have as a problem is when we started we were taught that the customer mattered and we gave a service not this shower of sxxt that we do now where the customer does not know if they are coming or going,we took a pride in what we did and you were proud to wear the uniform as it meant something then it does not matter now as the poor quality low grade rubbish we wear that they laughing call a uniform is not befitting of the Queens mail.
This park and Loop stuff is not giving our customers the service they so richly deserve and the quality is rubbish it makes people like me laugh when the bosses talk about it because they have not the conviction in their words and they know full well that they don't agree with what they are being told to spiel only they are to scared of their own shadow and fear their boss to tell the truth because they know if they go against the grain then they are a marked card.
There is only one other thing i would like to put in i love my job i don't like some of the people i work with because they are their own worst enemy and i would just like to clear up that as a union rep i don't have a cushy duty to do i have one of the crappiest that's not to say i am a weak rep by any means i defend my office with vigor even though the union bods at the top don't give a fig for us only it is not us that has the park and loop they don't like our tack ticks,i do the best i can with what i have at my disposal.I am not going to leave the job no matter how s**t it feels because i would not give them the pleasure in thinking they have beaten us!

Come the repick I will be doing park and loop.
I guess there will be a stampede in your office for the locker when the re-sign starts :whistle
NO bags on shoulders please except for Moya who keeps her big fat wage packet in hers

So by my poor grip on mathematics you are around mid to late fifties and you are
going to go back on the wallet !!!! Are you off your head man, think you have to
have been in the locker room too long and have lost track of how the delivery
side of the job has changed in the last quarter of a century but whatever floats
your boat, i wish you well but would advise you to think again on this, it most
certainly wont resemble what you did 25 years ago :confused :confused

Even though i know first hand how crazy the locker can be sometimes i absolutely 100% guarantee once the repick comes....he'll pick the locker.
Why...because there there's a world of difference between having a week on a p&l with no pressure or hassle from management because you're doing them a favour...and committing your future at 45+ to a p&l duty...and remember summer traffic isn't anything like September onwards. :whistle
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Your acting DOM can move you on/off any duty in the office under the remit of ''operational needs'' regardless of which duty you signed for.

I don't think your start/finish time can be changed by more than 30mins or (an hour?) without prior agreement though.

You do have the right to do the duty that you signed for it is your templated job that is why you have reserves if they talk about your start time they should try and see the rep where ever he/she is because they can't just change your start and finish time, the other thing is are they doing this to anyone else if not ask if they are going to do it to anyone else or are they just picking at you?

Did 35 years before I took IHR after my hip surgery. Always loved the job and the hours until it went down the pan. The last few years before I left last year were just the worst. Used to have pride in the work I did and chatting to customers but all you do now is explain to them why things have gone downhill. I'm still in touch with my former colleagues and it's so sad there now, they don't even have time for a chat and a laugh like we used to. Never known the moral so low as it is now there. Well done RM! :thumbdown

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
