so now I see we are paid 35% more than the competition.....

Post by wranglered »

I see RM now say we are paid 35% more than the competition due to our over generous and massively underfunded pension..

http://news.independent.co.uk/business/ ... 534062.ece

- perhaps the meeting on monday is to tell us we should be increasing our pensions contributions as well as taking a pay cut.

rocky - I was being a bit sarcastic!!!

I see this as Royal Mail upping the ante - last week we were 25% overpaid, now it is up to 35% - sounding more and more like they want Industrial Action.

re: An unpleasant reality

Post by F0zziebear »

Unfortunately the competitors on the whole are getting hold of large bulk contracts. These contracts are almost exclusively fully machineable items being process through brand new machines. On top that they are employing younger people who are being paid low (minimum) wages with virtually no benefits on top.

This is the unpleasant experience of other sectors that were opened up to competititon/privatisation since the mid 80s. This is one of the reasons why I decided to leave RM. I tried the competititon and didn't like what I saw there either, so ultimately I have left the industry. It was much easier for me as I have transferable skills. For those who do not is won't be so easy.

Good luck

ROYAL MAIL PAY AND THE FUTURE

Post by TrueBlueTerrier »

Just got a leaflet from the CWU and in it they say that they have no alternative but to ballot us for STRIKE action. Just wondering if any CWU guys on here can tell me why they cant go for a refusal to co-operate or work to rule instead. My fear is that a strike vote wont be as well supported generally as it would be on this board, and that other than a substantial majority voting for a strike it could damage our position and the union.

I honestly don't know off the top of my head, but I would put a reasonable bet on that they get paid more than private sector. This is generally because of union power who help secure better deals than in the private sector. The idea of working to rule is an interesting one, though harder to make ensure it gets enforced and the top brass of the CWU wouldn't feel comfortable it (my opinion).

Your best bet is to get other public sector workers out on strike (as they do in France), but this highly unlikely to happen. Another laternative as mentioned before is to mobilse postal workers across Europe, but again I don't see evidence of cross Europe co-operation.

I reckon a better pay deal will be worked out, but the 30-40,000 joins and the removal of numerous duties will be included (remember that included in that figure is wastage - retirement and people happy to leave). Also mgmt would use such an opportunity to give VR to trouble-makers. I know this for a fact as I helped the last time round (nothing illegal mind you before anyone rats on me!)

I also reckon that those who have mortgages to pay (with increased interest rates) might prefer not to go on strike. It will be interesting to view this from the outside this time round

F0zz off to celebrate something with copious amounts of alcohol see you at A&E

With out going through it all,i would recommend EVERYONE to read their union notice boards at work,it's not all about pay.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Ive heard this about RM saying that we get paid more than the competition, excuse me if im wrong but who the f**k does what we do, which of our competitors delivers E2E, it was only 2 years ago that Leighton was saying that we werent paid enough, we must have upset him making him have a pay freeze, he must be struggling paying his mortgage on half a million quid a year. :no no

this is true..

for me its not about the pay its about what they want you to do on top of the poxy £600 theyre offering..

its unbelievable..theyre going to give you £11 per week and take £35 off you if you look at the door to door money theyre going to save off you and summer staffing and late starts etc...

theyre offer is a joke...they want you to do all this work and basically offer you a pay cut..

To legally work to rule you will have to vote for this, as working to rule is legally industrial action, which requires a ballot to take part in such action. :wave :wave

yes but wil the union give us the choice of action to take and where and when to take it,the more mail centres shut, the more the chain shrinks the more damage a small group of people can do in a shorteer space of time,if you havee 10 mail centres and 1 strikes the others get hammered with their mail,if you only have 2 m/c and they both strike or work to 318,then the job gets fucke? quicker

[quote="POSTMAN"]Talks were held between Royal Mail and CWU yesterday around the 2007 pay negotiations and the future of Royal Mail.

At the meeting Royal Mail tabled an offer that they described as their “full and final offerâ€
