Add this to the fact there are real problems over the new regional management breaking the terms of the agreement we are I would suggest in for some stormy times.

In future I think we should keep a tally of how many days he gets a year and how many he takes...........not that there's any way there would be a discrepancy of course. But just imagine a foreign trip with a couple of days sightseeing now are they part of the trip or a couple of days holiday?

Many more have likely not been recorded. Due to the farce at Off Comm Royal Mail cannot surchare TNT for the service and have delivered a lot of these items free of charge.

Do we really have to deliver them free of charge?

At present if a Mail Centre receives DSA mail for which it does process we can bill/surcharge the relevent DSA provider. (An example: Home Counties North Mail Centre processes HP/WD/AL/EN postcodes. If it gets DSA for any other area like OX,RG,TS etc these items get stamped and are charged to TNT etc.

Also I don't know if you remember years ago when the milkmen started delivering stuff for Truprint? Many of these ended up back in the Royal Mail pipeline these were all surcharded so what's the problem now?

I used to work on the Mail Centre side of things years ago. Often you would see mail that was intended to be send with a courier but was posted into a pillar box by mistake. THESE ITEMS WERE ALL SENT FOR SURCHARGING.

Maybe royalmail don't have enough staff to surcharge them or cannot be arsed as we will be owned by TNT soon!.

just had a meeting today with Paul Railton and Andrea Bowmer and according to them saturday deliveries are here for the next 10 years

That means nothing ...nothing is cast in stone ........ nothing stays the same from one year to the next anymore.

They may both be gone in 10 years time.......

Lets hope the cwu lets its members make a decision on not working saturdays before they try and fight it,im all for dropping saturday working. Cant wait sooner the better for everyone ,better lifestyle for us more profits for royal mail everyone wins.

Agree, would be bliss to have weekends off ,i think we should be fighting for stopping saturday deliveries,so come on CWU lets do something useful for a change. This certainly makes sense for Royal Mail and its workforce. I wonder why the cwu would oppose this,i have the answer one sixth less workforce one sixth less money for the top brass of the cwu,we know, we have you sussed.

What do you want from a union?
Do you think the CWU should actively argue for job cuts so that members can have every saturday off?
They would look rather stupid on the picket line with their "We Want Job Cuts" banners.
If we go down to a 3 day week you can have even more job cuts and even more days off,perhaps the CWU should start a campaign for that now?
The only thing you have sussed about the CWU is what you want from it personally.

It is possible that the membership would accept or even embrace a mon-fri,only a full consultation would resolve that dilemma but it's a sad day if we ever go to our employer begging for it...and obviously the job cuts that go with it and it's certainly not the place of a trade union to do so.

Rather than going to a 5 day week we should be actively seeking a 5 over 7. We would be the only provider of a seven day service. It would alleviate the pressure on deliveries, post revision of course and really protect jobs. The provision would also enable a 2 day break which many don't enjoy at present, of course there would be losers but apparently that is now the name of the game. There could well be potential for making part timers full time. There is much that could be done on Sunday to prepare for the week ahead. I'm sure that this is a contentious issue but it's surely something that should be considered even if it is rejected.

Who in their right mind wants to work saturday and sundays,and as for the cwu your not fooling anyone,surely you should be fighting for the welfare of the workers, not how many you can get on your books to be treated like dirt,more full time less part time .Whoever negotiated 20hr contracts to treat them like dirt ,pick them up and drop them down.weve got you sussed lining your own pockets,im talking about paid union men not reps before you all start going off on one.DAVID ICKE FOR LEADER.

The job losses and the consequential loss of union subs would mean there was no longer a CWU fighting for the welfare of any workers.
