WHAT a delight the Bristol Royal Mail choir gave to us on TV. Seeing them singing so well to such a high standard was inspiring, as was their obvious enjoyment. I am sure that all serving officers and retired colleagues wish them the best of luck in the remainder of the competition.
Readers might like to learn that this is not the first Bristol Royal Mail choir. In the 1960s and 1970s a choir was formed on a much smaller scale to sing at the annual carol services held at St Stephen's Church in the city. It was led by our own choirmaster Rodney Drew and the organ was played by supervisor Reg Flew.
Going back much further, music played an important part in the postal staff's recreation. In the book The Bristol Royal Mail written by Mr R C Tombs, he said "the postmen have a military band composed of 30 members of their own staff".
