This is happening more and more nowadays. Management getting into the rep early doors and encouraging them to try management. Easy way off getting what managers want whilst rep is still the rep.fishtank wrote:Thanks for the update.Preston and proud wrote:As a postie at christian rd peston , this is just a build up of problems with this jumped up postie/driver and union rep becoming a acting manager who will stop at nothing in his attempted rise to the top. there was no headbutt , just a nose to nose argument which resulted in the postie being suspended and the manager remaining in his post . there is a meeting in the morning at 6am

Your local rep will have to make it official PDQ, get the ballot papers in asap, work to rule, this could be in for a long stretch

Re: PRESTON DO WALKOUT
This is oh so familiar. If, as I suspect, there was a heated exchange, in all honesty, the cooling off period should have been allowed to take place and the matter could have been settled.
Yet again, the Royal Mail shows itself in the worst possible light with the householders in Preston left with no delivery service. Two days so far with a third at the start of the week appearing a likelihood.
Why oh why does the Royal Mail have to do things the hard way ?
The answer to that is they employ managers with too many chips on their shoulder and too many axes to grind. Met far too many of these school of hard knocks merchants down the years. You can spot them a mile off and the sooner the Royal Mail is shut of them, the better for everyone.
I say this to the Royal Mail, you will have to settle this dispute with the employees of Preston DO, sooner rather than later. How about Monday 8th October 2012, no later than midday!!!!
It will be interesting to see if the management in Preston have what it takes. If past events are anything to go by, I am not holding my breath. The list of meaningless disputes across the United Kingdom would fill a telephone directory and the stubborn resolve of management to dig in regardless has long since become repetitive and tedious.
As we should all know, the Royal Mail is in dreadful shape. To help put the wheels back on, it requires the management and staff working together. Like it or not, there is no alternative.
Therefore, lets see the suspended mamber of staff reinstated with immediate effect and the manager in question presented with a large slice of humble pie to be eaten whole. Then it is back to work for everyone and life goes on.

Re: PRESTON DO WALKOUT
I agree with everything posted above except the "manager" should be returned to OPG duties because getting involved in a heated debate on the shop floor is grossly unprofessional on his part. He clearly doesn't have what it takes to be a manager.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Re: PRESTON DO WALKOUT
Where?Delivery director Adrian Fielding said
“This needs to be resolved within the standard disagreement framework as agreed by the Union and implemented successfully elsewhere.”
The last time the IR Framework was properly recognised by Royal Mail, the agreement was signed off with a quill pen, sealed with wax and carried to London on a mail coach.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Re: PRESTON DO WALKOUT
Preston isn't the only place to go out recently and I believe that it may be an isolated incident that triggers the walk out but it is with growing frustration over the shambles that is BT2010 and the increasing pressure from management in all manner of things. It is going to get worse as the revisions continue and there is no leadership from the top.

I take your point clashcityrocker and fully accept what you say. The manager in question did behave in a grossly unprofessional manner so it seems, from what has been said. None of us are immune from poor misjudgement and perhaps this manager might learn humility and become a better manager as a result of it, Such an outcome would be in his best interests and that of Preston Delivery Office as a whole.
As I am sure you know, managers, when in the wrong, depart the pigsty smelling of roses, more times than not. The CWU may well have to accept such a verdict in this instance, granted that is, the member of staff, currently under suspension, is reinstated immediately with no questions asked. I await the outcome with interest.
