Parcels at your neighbours from tomorrow.
Hope you like your neighbours! Royal Mail to start leaving parcels next door if no one's home
Critics fear for their items as they will not be able to choose who receives mail
Households can opt out by putting a sticker on their door near their letter box

From tomorrow, postmen will leave parcels with a neighbour if you are out.
Instead of posting a ‘sorry you were out’ note, Royal Mail will deliver next door.
Households can opt out by putting a special sticker near their letter box. And Royal Mail will still be responsible if the post goes missing.
From tomorrow, postmen can leave parcels with a neighbour if you are out
But critics fear for their items as it will not be possible to choose who receives your mail.
TV historian Mary Beard tweeted: ‘Royal Mail “good neighbour” scheme = cost-cutting & you can’t choose which neighbour.
‘On 1 side of me, house of temp student sub-lets. Aggh!’
Until now, Royal Mail was the only company not to deliver next door as standard practice.
The state-owned post service was banned from leaving post with a neighbour under previous regulations – but these rules are expected to be lifted within the next few weeks by regulator Ofcom.
The decision follows a successful trial of the service in around 750,000 homes in seven parts of the country – including Swansea, Norwich, Edinburgh and Wigan – since November last year.
But critics have raised concerns that items could be stolen or damaged by neighbours.
Dreaded: The Royal Mail delivery card could soon be a distant memory
It will not be possible to select which neighbour receives your parcel and postmen will also not be obliged to try each neighbour until they find one prepared to accept the item.
And, if a parcel does disappear, people will only be entitled to the standard compensation of £46 – if the Royal Mail upholds their complaint.
Royal Mail said those who do not want to take part can opt out by ordering a sticker for their front door or letter box, either via phone or online.
The sticker tells postmen that householders do not want their parcels delivered to neighbours and will not take in their neighbours’ items.
Anything sent by Special Delivery, from abroad, or high-value parcels will be excluded from the scheme.
Post sent by a Government department under the ‘Do Not Redirect’ (DNR) scheme, such as pension information or passports, will also be excluded. DNR means the item can only be delivered to the address it bears.

Two Questions here?
No 1) Where do you get these stickers from "Bring the parcel back to the delivery office? I have seen three on my walk.
No2 ) If a postie drops off a T Shirt from Marks and Spencer we will say at number 6 the High St and they are out he then goes to 8 they are out then to 10 who are in and sign the pda and take it in then a dog mauls the packet in that house who is responsible?

Number 10 isn't next door to number 6 so I wouldn't bother attempting there, and the stickers can be requested from hereOssie From Preston wrote:Two Questions here?

I did read it properly. As properly as it made sense anyway. I wouldn't attempt delivery at number 10 as they are not next door to number 6. I would attempt at 4 and 8 only, otherwise where do you stop? "Everyone is out between numbers 8-24 but they were in at 26 so I left it with them" !Ossie From Preston wrote:Read the post proper mate! we will say at number 6 the High St and they are out he then goes to 8 they are out then to 10TeeferTiger wrote:Number 10 isn't next door to number 6 so I wouldn't bother attempting there, and the stickers can be requested from hereOssie From Preston wrote:Two Questions here?

And "you're welcome" for providing you with the link for the stickers.

I think it's been mentioned somewhere else that it's up the OPG anyway whether they leave it with a neighbour so if you've got time and want to get rid then do so. If not, weigh up whether the person it's being delivered to will appreciate it or not lolsomerset wrote:I cannot see what all the fuss is about .Just carry on and 739 them.End of ! If RM think i have the time to go backwards and forwards to neighbours. Not in , card , bye .

Re: Parcels at your neighbours from tomorrow.
In answer to your second question: The person who signed for the parcel is responsible. The reason, is that once the Postie has a signiture, their responsibility for that item ends. Which is another reason for getting as many people as possible to get the opt out stickers.Ossie From Preston wrote:Two Questions here?

Actually Andy - Royal mail have said in their blurb that until the intended receiver gets it then Royal Mail still hold the can. http://www.royalmail.com/delivery-neigh ... #neighbour" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; deniesandy2007 wrote:In answer to your second question: The person who signed for the parcel is responsible. To be honest I think that leaves Royal Mail open to all sorts of problems, and we know how the trickle down theory works.6. What happens if my neighbour denies having my item, or mail left with a neighbour gets lost or damaged?
If any items are delivered to a neighbour and are subsequently lost or damaged, you consumers will still be able to make a compensation claim in the normal way. All claims will be investigated and assessed under the normal processes and in line with the terms and conditions of the service used.
