How many loops would that be at a bundle or two a time.
My walk has 6 loops of 40mins each.
That's about 3-4 bundles plus packets and i'm not carrying that...especially for four hours. :left:
If i end up with a long term injury using a trolley i'm laughing and limping all the way to the bank,if you end up with a long term injury or have an accident while using a bag they will probably try to sack you.
Four hours? Is that all you do?

They are not guidelines...they are rules.
Follow them or don't,it's your choice but by not following them you are carving up the job in exactly the same way as someone who comes in early and skips their meal break, you are making it easier to cut jobs in the long term and you are putting your own job at immediate risk.
Who said anything about rushing around like an idiot? My point is that trolleys, for the most part, are a pain in the neck...sometimes literally.

No-one,certainly not me but someone starting early and skipping their meal relief isn't rushing around like an idiot, they are doing the duty in a way that makes it appear to take less time than it should which makes it easy for management to argue for savings or job cuts....

Just like you said yourself....
Management know hardly anybody uses them but pretend they don't because they know it's in their best interest, in terms of both saving on O/T claims .
And banner said...
It is still quicker to use smaller loops with no trollies.
Quicker equals less hours equals less job security...or have i missed something?
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Quicker equals can be done in the allotted time. Our 4.5 hour span would probably turn into 6 hours if we religiously used trollies and didn't use common sense. Your interpretation of the guidelines is extremist. I hope you don't believe in the bible because you might want stoning to death bringing back
I generally agree with what you are saying but just not as rigidly in application. You said the loops are too small. How can they be too small? They are small enough such that I don't have to carry any weight or use a lumbering trolly for no purpose.

If your span was 6 hours instead of 4.5 hours they would have to take the extra 1.5 hours off your delivery and employ someone else to do it

and if I hopped around it would take 12 hours and they would have to take 7.5 hours off the delivery and employ even more people, what is your point?

Stating that if you hopped round your delivery it would take 12 hours shows how ridiculous your argument is it would also lead to Royal Mail sacking you. The point is that trolleys are compulsary and if you did your job properly instead of cutting corners more people would have jobs

so what your saying is you have taken it on yourself to reduce the hours in your office, if it takes 6 hours with trollies it takes 6 hours, you then get your duty looked at and get it cut back so its only 4hr15 or whatever your duty span should be, your basically stopping someone else getting those extra hours either as ot or even a part timer getting extra hours on their contract,

and as for having 11 loops, thats too small, to make park and loop work the most efficiently the loops need to be planned at 40-45mins each

and this is without even mentioning the h+s issues with deciding to carry bags instead of using the trollies properly and the way they were designed to be used

It is the same point because I am doing he job properly. The loops are small enough such that I don't have to use the trolly and to do so would be ridiculous because of the terrain and due to it being redundant.

your not doing the job properly then if your not using the trolly. question was your duty planned to use a trolley?

I didn't plan the loops, so whoever did, planned them to be small enough such that trollies were not required and the duty could be completed in 4.5 hours. I fail to see where there is fault on my part.

If a duty is split down enough, then trollies are redundant, that is my only point. Is that not the case with a rural delivery, or should they be carrying trollies?

was the duty planned specifically for a delivery without trollies?

if so why were you provided with them if it was planned not to use them?

rural deliveries may be planned that the need to use trollies in parts of their delivery, but again it depends on how the duty was planned to be done

My point is that they shouldn't be mandatory. Common sense should prevail. I cannot see why RM management refuse to acknowledge this when it is in everybody's best interest to do so. Currently I finish at my correct time or thereabouts. If I used a trolley for every loop I'd be claiming. Straightforward enough isn't it?
