I have lost count of the managers gone sick with stress due to a new sector manager who is treating the Doms and Linos with serious harassment.
I was in the unenviable situation on Tuesday of sitting with a lino who was in the process of a breakdown ,beyond the call of a CWU rep but empathy and compassion is a useful attribute to have and I would not turn anyone down, it was not nice and I am disgusted with what is going on .
Now with this one woman Royal Mail destruction machine we are going to be fooked at Christmas

Or is it all right to ignore the bullying just as long as we are not the victim?
And bullying from above will filter down as surely as night follows day.
When you hear a manager bullying another member of staff, arguing in an intimidating manner, body language, raised voices etc. it is totally unacceptable behaviour. Don't ignore it and turn or walk away, join in with your colleague, who is a victim of the bullying, just being there taking it in helps your colleague. You're a witness.
The bully becomes aware that their actions are gaining attention from others who are in uniform.
Safety in numbers here. it should stop the progression further. Support your colleague, back them up, tell the boss that they are 'bang out of order'. If he 'ups the anti', protect you're colleague and withdraw them away from the confrontation and seek the support and services of you're Rep. deputy rep or branch officer if neither of the other is available.
Don't do NOTHING, because if you turn a blind eye, next time it could very well be you being bullied.
I hear this sort of thing time and time again. RM seems to have a habit of promoting/ employing power crazed dictators who don't realise that they are dealing with real PEOPLE and not robots or droids. They are there to HELP YOU DO THE JOB, WITH THE RIGHT TOOLS FOR THE JOB ETC.
There are people who wear our uniform who are better educated and have more life experience than the jumped up loud mouthed, 'love the sound of my own voice' types who seem to think that wearing a suit entitles them to treat those in uniform like s**t.
IT BLOODY WELL DOES NOT!
If I was still in the uniform of something else I once belonged to and I heard and saw a manager behaving the way that some are doing these days (again), I'd give them one warning under section5 public order act, then if they persisted, then they're nicked. It's dissorderly conduct, especially if they use swear words at you or anything else that is 'likely to cause harassment alarm or distress.'
No one! NO ONE! has the right to abuse their position in the work place and bully people to the point were it will affect them physically and mentally.
Always challenge it when it rears it's ugly head. Not doing so makes the bully stronger because of you're weakness. Be bold if you have to.
Everything we have today was fought for against one form of bullying or another by others in the past.

Erm , yes, well said except this is about Doms and Lino's being bullied and, despite a lack of sympathy coming from some people , this is not on either .
I know at least three O.P.G's that have been made acting Lino's and even the exulted position of acting D.O.M. being offered as well, "going to hell in a handcart " springs to mind.

Re: Armageddon in the GU area
Your right nobody should stand there and let it happen, but quite often those very same people have been guilty of bullying staff and have got away with it!the same applies to managers you should ask the person/s to stop, i have seen many managers crowd round and protect those managers who offend, shamefully enough still working for Royal Mail and still bully staff, when you read through some of the posts on this site it is very clear that managers because for what ever reason are not getting their own way or the results that are required, they start picking and what excuse do they use it is the member of staff who are being difficult or not preforming so you can see why people have no sorrow. Your right it is all going to hell in a hand cart.bedfordrl wrote:Erm , yes, well said except this is about Doms and Lino's being bullied and, despite a lack of sympathy coming from some people , this is not on either .

Re: Armageddon in the GU area
But Mr Higson doesn't believe there is a problem with Bullying and Harassment in Royal Mail does he. Well there certainly is! Manager to Manager and Manager to OPG and I'm pretty sure that he knows and condones it, or at least turns a blind eye which is as bad.
I've said before this organisation needs drains up re-org of the managerial structure and there needs to be an enforcement of zero tolerance to any form of B&H. Won't happen and post privatisation don't expect things to improve. I know of at least a dozen senior managers who B&H their direct reports on a daily basis but they can't do anything because the CMA are spineless and the investigation procedure is so seriously flawed it's almost as if it's designed to fail. I've no time for bullying managers who get bullied themselves but there are some decent ones who just get shafted week in week out.
